Ran across a report that Oil Can Boyd is planning to pitch for a team in Ottawa at the ripe age of 49. He has a ways to go to match Satchel, who competed at 59, but Oil Can hasn't always taken care of himself the way that Satchel was reputed to have. One doesn't have to go beyond the nickname to confirm this.

Can anyone think of an athlete still competing professionally in a real sport who is older than Oil Can? Let's rule out activities like softball, golf, bowling, racing, etc.

Oil Can likely to pitch in Ottawa at 49

I figured he was busy with his new TV show:

He pitched for the Sioux City Explorers some years back. I thought he was old then.

I read in Sports Illustrated some guy suited up and played a little for a D-3 college team at the age of 45. He was allowed to play since he was enrolled at the school.

I remember watching him pitch back then. He was awesome, for the Northern League. Then he left the Explorers right before the playoffs, and they got stomped.
