Arnaud vs. Stanzi

Re: OH, and one more thing

See my last post.

And we proved Taet sucked when we beat you guys 23-3 at home. That season Taet was preseason player of the year in the big ten and had Albert Young as a runningback. He was just HIGHLY overrated JUST LIKE STANZI. They both sucked. You hawks should consider yourselves lucky to have such a bad conference that enabled you to win that many games with a garbage QB.

You're right...man Tate was awful. I mean, all he did in his first full season was lead his team to a Big Ten title with a 5th string, walk-on, white running back and a New Years Day victory against the defending national champions. Awful!

Your defense lead you to that bowl win. And what'd he do the rest of his career? Underachieved and barely missed the heisman....:jimlad:

Good grief dude, did someone **** in your cheerios this morning?
DJK was referring to this post from D UP Clones:

What happened to the great Drew Tate when the running game went south. Stanzi???? LOLOLOLO Please.

DJK and I both had the same answer - a conference championship, number 8 spot in the final ranking, and a win over the defending national champs.

All of this with Sam Brownlee at running back and a first year starter at QB.

Calm down.

Which QB would you choose for your starter in 2009?

Arnaud
Stats Overview Passing

YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2007 20 37 267 54.1 7.22 51 0 1 2 109.26
2008 247 401 2792 61.6 6.96 54 15 10 17 127.44

Stanzi
2007 0 4 0 0.0 0.00 0 0 1 0 -50.00
2008 150 254 1956 59.1 7.70 59 14 9 22 134.85

While Stanzi won more games, he had the benefit of a stronger OL and more sound coaching.

If AA was at IOWA the same time Stanzi was and practiced, etc. AA would be the starting QB for IOWA, no question. Better overall athletically, arm strength, etc.

Lets put it this way, if AA was the starting QB for IOWA, what would there record be and what would the expectations be at IOWA for the upcoming season?

Well, one thing the could have done is taught the guy to tackle without leading his head - or at the very least, head up...

No one bothered my cheerios, I just hate how Hawkeye Trolls roam these boards and talk about how great their starting QBs are and how much better their next QB in the pipeline will be. You guys haven't had a good college QB since Brad Banks. Tate was so overrated it is ridiculous. Your defense leads you to a big bowl win, and he goes on to underachieve his whole career. He wasn't good. Stanzi isn't good. Arnaud is leaps and bounds better. If Arnaud was in puke colors (black and gold), you'd love him and have him pose in the Heisman position all offseason...

Have you read any of this thread? One point should sum it up for you:

Iowa doesn't need a great QB to be a good team. They need someone to take care of the ball, and make good decisions with it, to take what the other team is giving him. Iowa doesn't need someone who can throw the ball 60 yards downfield on a rope, they need someone who can hit the tight end in the flat.

Stanzi doesn't have to be better than Arnaud for Iowa to be successful, wheras the pressure was all an Arnaud last year because his defense couldn't stop ANYONE.

If I were an ISU fan, I would be pissed that we had the better QB, but kept losing games, while the mediocre QB in Iowa City was winning.

The receivers dropped sure touchdowns? I'm not sure that happened. And for the record, Arnaud spent most of his time failing in the much drier endzone.
Collin Franklin dropped one that was a perfect ball over his shoulder. I was on the 3 yard line on that side in the front row. Nothing about that endzone was dry. Nothing about the field in general was dry. I think it was Shonn Greene? that went down right in front of us and slid about 8 feet outta bounds and made an imprint in the field...that was cool!

He didn't drop it as much as Angerer ripped it out of his hands, if I remember right. Maybe not, but I do remember a play like that happening at some point.

Iowa does need a great QB to get to that next level of play and wins. Otherwise they will always lose 3-4 games per year. When they had Brad Banks, they excelled and won a lot of games and were a pretty good football team.

I wonder people would say on HN if you posted it there.

If this thread were posted on HN, you would attempt to decipher something resembling these following posts:

RICKY RULES!
WE DONT NEED NO ARNOD!
THOSE DUM CYCLONS CAN KEEP THERE QUARTERBACK!
RICKY FOR HEISMAN!
13-0 2010 NATIONAL CHAMPION HAWKEYES!!
HAWKS RULE!

...

I think that was the next possession after Mahoney missed the field goal and Stanzi got picked. Bates threw it right to Angerer and Franklin tried taking it away...didn't work  The play after that Bates tried scrambling around the outside and got to about the 3 yard line before he got knocked outta bounds.

Are we still paying rent for that half of the field? We spent the entire third quarter on the student section half of the field.

Brad Banks was still not that next level of QB. He was a decent athlete, but was nowhere near one of the better QB's in college football that year. His offensive line and defense were even better than the EIU defense last year. I think Iowa could have put anyone in for Brad Banks and still have won games. Except for that one regular season loss!! HA, still kills me!

Good point. Still though, to say they "don't need a great QB" to win is just plain dumb.

Would you call Nathan Chandler a great QB? That team lost 3 games. Brad Banks was the exception to the rule, and that team lost 2 games, along with Tate's first team.

Dude finished second in the Heisman, and won the Davey O'Brian award. That like saying that Shonn Greene wasn't the best running back in the country last year. Please.

The offensive line was the best in school history, but that defense couldn't hold a candle to 2004 or 2008.

I would not call Nathan Chandler a great QB, and they did lose 3 games. Drew Tate, I thought was a decent QB, but people on here have different opinions.

I am just saying, if IOWA had a great QB, they wouldn't lose as many games. Of course that goes for most teams anyway. But what was stated before, "iowa doesn't need a great QB to win" doesn't make sense. They will most likely lose 3-4 games every season because of bad or average QB play.
