Nebraska's FB team just took 2 bigs hits. Also, apparently Beck's mother wrote a letter slamming the way Callahan runs things and the attitude of his players.

Its on the rivals Husker site and all over their message board. Bowman is their 6'2 stud senior cornerback, considered to be a First round draft choice in next years draft. I am not a fan of Callahan's at all so I consider the Beck situation a byproduct of how he runs things and and reaping what he sows, but I do sympathize w/ the Husker fans on the Bowman injury. I don't wish injury on any athlete. I hope he is able to come back 100% (like Blythe) and achieve the success he is due.

Unfortunately for me, I grew up a Raiders fan and I will always be a Raiders fan. I'll never forget what Bill Callahan did to that team. It was highly publicized that at the end of his tenure that Tim Brown and others had to restrain a couple of other players from physically dismantling their head coach. He comes across as a pompous jerk IMO and judging from his past, he's not a players coach by any means. Also, there was no discipline at all, but that could just be a function of the Raiders as opposed to Callahan.

Honestly I was somewhat shocked by their success last year and have been waiting for some sort of Raideresque implosion in Lincoln...

Why do I get the feeling that this is only the first of many players that will leave because they didn't get their promised playing time?

Is Beck the highly touted quarterback that plays backup? If it is I played cards against him in a poker room one night. The Husker-Cyclone banter was to be expected, but he was really surprised that I didn't know who he was. At first I doubted he was the real thing, but after many of the things he said I started to believe he indeed was who he said he was, unless he was a close friend or relative. Why would anyone pretend to me a no-name backup anyway? He was quite specific and about a few things and his arrogance was what you would expect from a highly touted player. He said he would be the starting quarterback a couple games into the season. I had to do an internet search afterwards to find out who the heck he was, so the name has stuck in my head.

Yeah...he is/was highly touted. In fact, Callahan was flamed pretty hard in Nebraska for inserting him into a game late in the season (late in the game too) when Taylor went down. They had a redshirt on him at the time...so it burned a full year of eligibility.

Depending on how thing pan out for him in Nebraska...that may not matter now over there.

According to that link you put out there, this may be just a rumor, or have you found substantial evidence that causes you to believe this is in fact the case?

The link was for the Bowman story. Really nothing concrete stating Beck is leaving the team.

There are threads all over the Husker board with fans speculating whether he'll be leaving or not though. Seems a good number expect him to pack his bags...

zdorr40, i too am a Raiders fan and laughed at my Cornhusker friends when they told me how good of a coach Callahan is.

Who else were they going to hire? Barney Fife?

Everyone else before Calla-tard turned them down!

You're right, they offered it to 3 or 4 other people who turned it down prior to Callahan taking it. Normally, I harbor no ill will, but this is not only Nebraska we're talking about, but Callahan as well. Two things that I really dislike. Could you imagine the state of disarray in Lincoln if there was a Raider-like uprising and Callahan got fired? Who could they get to coach them then.

I hope Callahan takes this program back to the dark ages.

seems to me that isu keeps on getting better chances to go to the Big 12 Championship game with OU and now Nebraska having players leaving and injured

It sure doesn't hurt our chances. Ultimately we still have to play well enough to win, no matter who OU or kNowledge puts out there.

Harrison Beck came back in great shape and Sweet Bill rewarded him with No 4 ranking so he got mad and skipped practice Sat and Sun. He would not answer his cell phone. He meets Little Bill tomorrow to discuss his future. I would think he is 95% gone. Looks like the whole season rests on Taylor's shoulders.

Yes, but we haven't heard what the BAD news is for ISU yet.

There is still no word on the status of sophomore Nebraska quarterback Harrison Beck. NU head coach Bill Callahan addressed the situation following Sunday's half-padded practice and said he has not yet talked with Beck at this point. Remember that Zac Taylor was an afterthought until Harrison was going to carry the water. Now possibility exists Harrison may go play for Central Florida or somewhere closer to home. And his Dad is the intermediate spokesperson to Billiton.
