Arnaud vs. Stanzi

When you look at the stats one should consider that Iowa was in almost exclusively close games while the Iowa State defense constructed a superhighway in the middle of the field leading to quite a few blowouts. Arnaud might find things a little more difficult if Iowa State stays in some games this year.

He might, but he performed well in the early close games as well.

Do Clone fans consider Arnaud's game at Iowa City to be a good performance? Sure, he racked up some yards on wide open outs, but the kid had a hell of a lot of chances to put the ball in the endzone and failed in every instance. That was Arnaud's game to win. People can take offense if they want, but it's a serious question.

I would probably take the more "toolsy" AA at this point. I like the versatility that you have and his mobility...though I am concerned about the INT numbers. 17 is A LOT of picks.

I know some of that can be blamed on a crummy o-line and maybe having to throw without thinking, but you can't say exactly how many of those.

I'd go with AA for now, but I could be swayed this year depending on Stanzi's improvement and what AA does with those INT numbers.

That's a good discussion question. I'm not going to offer the field and all that stuff.

You're right. I think we're still paying rent for all that time in the red zone, and we didn't score.

I believe that some of it has to do with it being his 3rd game. I believe that a lot of it has to do with our "stellar" play-calling. Delay of game penalties sure didn't help.

The lack of a running game and teams being able to stop the run with 4 in the box also added to those numbers.

Now I agree.

Lots of apples and oranges and different variables in this debate. AA's my guy though.

I think both these guys junior seasons will go a long way towards determining who the better qb unequivocally is. The weight of the offense was continually on AA's back all season. I dont anticipate Iowa running the ball as well, and Stanzi having to factor in more so the roles will change a bit this year.

On fact that made me very optimistic down the stretch was that AA starting putting up some huge numbers in yardage the last 4-5 games. That tells me he really started to grow as a player and in the scheme. Granted the scheme changes again, but in all fairness, the start of '08 saw AA with his feet barely wet as is. So '09 is in many ways the same starting point.

I feel if the run game improves a bit down inside the 10, AA will get some more easy TD tosses to inflate his numbers. had no confidence of them running on 3rd and short or inside the 5.

I do wish AA had more of that "drop it in the bucket" ability that Myer had on the deep passes. Of course Myer probably doesnt complete the pass to sumrall at the end of the unlv game by firing a lazer across the middle.

Yeah, it seemed like a lot to me too, I guess I should have just looked at 2007, because with my reading skills he would have had 109 TDs.

The fact that those columns don't really line up that well doesn't help matters either. I just counted back from "INT", and then counted back the other way.

I'm guessing that that would have been some sort of record.

The pass would have been incomplete either way, by Scirotto decided to hit Stross before the ball got there...easy call.

You must be forgetting the other three 3rd down conversions that Stanzi completed on that drive, after the PI.

did u read the very beginning of my post?

What is wrong with this thread? Hawks and Cyclones talking civilly together, people admitting to missing things in reading. What kind of message board is this turning into?!?!?!?!?! :jimlad:

The tone of this thread has been very refreshing. Nice work, everybody!

My best friend is a hawkeye homer...er i mean fan. :biglaugh: We have civil discussion quite frequently. We won't trash each other, but any other hakweye fan/cyclone fan is fair game to us.

Both teams appear to have quality QBs that each fan base is happy with. That's good for both programs.

I would like to see a comparison of Arnaud and Stanzi's rushing stats, also.
