McDermott under contract until 2015?

If McD doesn't start winning, JP better be excited to see 7,000 people in Hilton for the next 6 years. I think there are alot of people that wouldn't go to the games for free right now, let alone whatever they're charging.

If McD starts winning and gets the job, I'll be the first one to shut my mouth and give him his due props, but until then, stuff like this just kills my interest in this program. 6 years of 4-10. Yay.

Apologists, please tell me when McD will be held accountable. 2010-2011 season that ends 6-10 in conference, is that going to be considered 'improvement'. I meant that season because that will be 5 years of garbage. We have more on this board expecting guys to come in during their first year next season and make a big difference. Remember how you all talked about Staiger and Eick?

This is the second time I have been disappointed with Pollard, both times it has had to do with the men's basketball program. Like Obama, McD is clearly in over his head.

Why end your post with a political statement? Wrong or right it makes it easy to ignore your rant. Why would you want that to happen?

I'm just saying, all of our best recruits we had ins with before those assistants came to Iowa State.

That is one reason asst coaches get hired, heck it could be the main reason. If you are an asst coach and have ins at places, you are going to be a wanted coach. Look at the players Hill is getting at KSU, just because of his ties to an AAU program.

See, the first problem that you have is that you are ASSUMING that a season two years from now will be poor. Gotta point out the old saying, "Assuming makes an *** of you." Of course, in this case, it ends right there, 'cause I'm making no such assumptions.

And that one was an awfully big (and unfounded) one.

At least, you didn't give any substantive reasons for it. In return, I'll point out that Diante and Lucca will be seniors, Justin Hamilton and Scott Christopherson among the juniors, Pomlee and Colvin sophs, and Kadima and Dykstra frosh. A seasoned, well balanced team.

And that even ignores the fact that I think NEXT season could be a trip to the Big Dance, let alone two years from now.

We all make a lot of assumptions on here Aclone, yourself included, it just happens to be that the ones you don't like are the ones you don't agree with.

I'm on the record saying 2 years from now will be another rebuilding year. I think that is fairly obvious since we will most likely not have Brackins or Gilstrap.

Pretty much every recruit for every sport ISU has brought in will be a stud or major contributor according to your posts the last few years. First year guys RARELY contribute a lot unless they are really special. I hear that every one of our recruits are special from our recruiting guys on here, makes me wonder how every other coach in the country is missing out on guys that ISU has been bringing in and churning out winning teams with. Sorry, until I see some winning, I have no expectations for the MBB program.

Ah. So we see the problem. Poor reading comprehemsion skills.

Among them the fact that you mistake "stud or major contributor" for "immediate stud or major contributor".

In football last year, I said that I liked Sed Johnson out of that class, and the likes of Scott Haughton and Chase Harper were just as good, despite their lack of stars.

I still like Sed Johnson, thought he showed a lot of promise, Harper didn't manage to qualify--and Haughton was starting by the end of the year. Plus, Darius Darks, whom I had liked as a safety, did just as well when insisting upon playing offense. And while I liked Ter'ran Benton, in the face of rampant optimism I was also uncertain about Jeremiah Schwartz due to a published (scouting combine) 4.89 40 time.

Anything else you--inadvertantly misread, I'm sure--is in error. There wasn't a single member of last year's basketball class that I touted, indeed, I attempted to temper expectations over Wes Eikmeier. I was hesitantly optimistic about Justin Hamilton, in the long run (who pleasantly surprised), and all I ever said about Buckley was that the staff thought he fit their system. That Pomlee was an excellent athlete, but raw. And I refrained comment about Mann.

So while you ponder your own lack of reading comprehension, I'll wonder (albeit briefly), whether you're just that dense, or merely being a jerk. But I figure it really doesn't matter, either way. And I'll go my own way, leave the playing field to you, and wish you (and all others) a good and happy Sunday!

Not exactly true. Operating on the assumption that two years from now we will still be that bad is equally invalid as saying that two years from now (the exact same time period) we'll be undefeated Big !2 Champs, and make a run to the Final Four.

Trust me, I don't agree with that one, either.

Have a good weekend, I'm outta here!

Gotta point out that this old saying is actually "When you assume, you make an *** out of you (u) and me". I believe the "me" part, the part you left out in your post, would be you...wouldn't it?

All I know is in every Big XII game I have seen I thought the other team had more talent than ISU (most had significantly more) and if the recruits that are coming in next year are half as good as advertised I can't help but think ISU will be better. The 4 wins ISU had this season was about what I expected. Time will tell on GMac but I hope he succeeds because he will be here till he retires - I just hope I want him till he retires.

I saw that to and was laughing pretty hard.....its pretty routine for him to leave out information that does not support his arguments. (which over the past three years is alot of facts)

I'll give Coach Mac some due here. Here is a coach that I see in church every Sat night or Sunday with his family. He is a very likable guy. For all the bashers and executioners that post on here, how many other coaches put their family and other aspects of their lives in line with their job? Coaches are just like you and me, they need to be treated the same also.

I'm just saying, you've made a lot of assumptions about seasons that have already passed, which were completely incorrect. I have as well, it's the nature of the beast. I'm sure we've both been wrong more times than we would like on here, that's for sure.

Clearly, based upon the plethora of posts telling us, McDermott is a "quality guy". I think that is great.

However, this is a business. A business where results and success is measured in wins and losses. In most businesses, if you don't produce results and have success you are shown the door sooner or later.

I doubt the poor performing sales rep that is let go will be able to pull the "but I went to church every Sunday and I'm a nice guy" card to keep his job. Once again, nothing wrong with going to church, being a family man and a nice guy...but those are not the things that major college MBB coaches are judged upon.

PS: I sure hope you were not opposed to the ISU FB team having a team chaplain!

Pollard has used the CEO comparison when talking about his coaches frequently. CEO's that don't increase shareholder value get canned. He's not just like me - if he was, he'd be in a lot less stressful of a job that makes a lot less money. He chose the path of responsibility.

So are you ready to come out and call for McD to be fired? Or are you still just pissing into the wind?
