Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

The attendance at Pauley Pavilion is terrible too. Probably about 25% last game against CU. Too bad Bill wasn’t doing the color for the explanation. A ‘Dead’ reference could not have been truer.

Never understood why Cronin left Cincinnati to coach in an empty Pauley Pavillian when Cinci fans come out and pack the gym

Just saw that Iowa hosted two recruits for their game against Minnesota this past Sunday.

Can you imagine bringing someone in to that mausoleum on Super Bowl Sunday, in front of tens of hundreds of fans, and then saying "What do you think? Do you want to be a Hawkeye?"

Then again, Fran really knows how to make a pitch to goofy looking guys like this, so maybe it'll work.

The Des Moines metro area has a population of 740k. Add a few tens of thousands more for Ames and other surrounding cities within driving distance, but it's not a "pool" over one MM.

The LA metro area has a population of 13 million. Including interior regions like Riverside, San Bernardino, Ontario, Thousand Oaks, and Ventura pushes that closer to 18 million.

Yet that piddly Iowa population manages to pack Iowa State's Jack Trice and Hilton meanwhile UCLA can barely get anybody at all to come to their football and basketball games.

Why is UCLA a "better get" again? Mostly a rhetorical question here, but I wonder sometimes. Southwest Ohio is bigger than central Iowa but the same would be true with Cincinnati.

So there's gonna be a sh!t ton of red in the stands then?

Iowa’s athletic department should have been proactive and made it a red out for Iowa fans too. So then it wouldn’t look as bad when the visitor fans outnumber the home fans when they pan over the crowd.

Surprised they found seats with all the people around them. You sure this isn’t from practice? There is no one else in the photos, lol.

Fran certainly has a type and these two definitely fit that mold.

How malleable is the list of blue bloods?

Kentucky, Kansas, Duke and NC seem to be the unquestioned mainstays.

But would Duke have been considered one before K‘s career?

UCLA and Indiana have been mediocre for a long time, UCLA is a little harder to drop completely due to the magnitude of their accomplishments.

While they’re more “new money” I’ve seen enough to include UConn on the list now

L - O -L at that "carver cone" in the first pic.....

UCLA is a blue blood, however dormant they may currently be.
Their last championship was nearly 30 years ago. Their second last was nearly 50 years ago. They had a helluva run 60 years ago.
I question the "once a blue blood, always a blue blood" premise.
