Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

If I had a dollar for every time the BTN guys said "turned off the faucet" in the second half, I'd retire tomorrow.

Announcers said Iowa putscored 24 to 6 at the end! Iowa’s winning defense just couldn’t handle that Maryland high powered offense.
There have been many discussions on whether any of Iowa's players would find minutes on Iowa State's current team. I think that it would be a resounding "No." None of them would, defensively, be good enough to sniff the floor. Now, maybe over the course of a season & 1 off-season, a couple of their players might be able to pick up the defensive intensity & bulk up in the weight room to add depth to a roster like ours. But, their entire team is one-dimensional. If they aren't shooting 50% or higher against mediocre or better teams, they have a hard time winning.

I don’t think they would play much versus our current players, but a decent coach could do something with Perkins, and Patty Mac seems to have regressed every year since high school.

That, right there, perfectly captures Fran's entire tenure at Iowa - especially in regards to recruiting and defense. The two white guys on the video cover should have been starters on any of the Valley or Summit League teams. And, of course, their defensive zone positioning demonstrates how to effectively let the other team scorch you - to the tune of "9 for 16" - from three-point range.

At this point how do you NOT get rid of Fran? They are going to be lucky to finish .500 overall and fans are done. Not gonna get any better next year. I think Fran actually leaves on his own after this season.

Will be interesting to see who Iowa targets (whenever he's gone). I know nearly everyone says DeVries is a slam dunk. Have at it. I don't think they're in a position to assume a mid major coach is gonna be what they need. They need an older retired coach to come in and do something with a younger one waiting in the wings a few years down the line.

I hate almost everything about the team out east, however, watching Fran try to coach basketball is so enjoyable for me, is it time to actually want them to win a few so his legacy continues for a few more years?
I hope Fran can hang in there for 2 more years. That would make it a "Sweet 16" years as the hok coach. Finally able to finish the recovery from the Lickliter years.

I watched the UNC vs Syracuse game yesterday and thought it lacked intensity while watching our game also. Iowa vs Maryland looked like a pick up game at the ymca had some coaches for some reason. Not intensity at all
