Holy **** that’s a big win

IF ISU can hold serve at home and just split the road games that are left they will finish 13-5 which would be the high water mark for any ISU team since the conference went to 18 games, and only one conference win shy of the legendary LE team in 2000. That is pretty wild if one considers how much tougher the Big 12 is now compared to literally anyone else playing basketball across the country this year. This is probably one of the greatest ISU basketball teams of all time, without much hyperbole.

However, I don't see two more losses to Houston unless we deliver one to them on their home court. Maybe Baylor can catch them on an off night in Waco. They do have KU left on their home floor which will be a good game, I just don't think Self has enough to go in there and get that one. It's going to be tough to get past them this year. Can we expect the guys to go 8-1 the rest of the way, with one of the wins being Houston in their barn? That's what it will probably take to win the Big 12 title.

That .1 seconds in Waco looms large now that I'm looking at the rest of the schedules.

I got the pleasure of listening to the Texas broadcast on Sat. radio after my daughter's surgery to remove her tumor. God did they suck, whining about the play of UT the entire 2nd half. Finally got close enough to pick, up the ISU broadcast on the BUS to listen to the postgame.

Great win, going 1 and 1 this week was about as good as one could expect. We could have won both, but we also could have lost both. Take the win and move on.
Both team's broadcasts are on the Varsity app. Mrs. Velo and I each wore one of my earbuds so we didn't disturb son who was doing homework.

I feel bad for Tyrese. He took advice from someone instead of sticking with Iowa State. Now he is stuck playing for Terry down in Texas and has not improved one bit. The guy who came in and replaced him had a similar first season at Iowa State and has improved to being the the top point guard in the league in his second year.

Player development isn't exactly Texas's thing. They just hit the portal every year instead of trying to develop the guys they have. Tyrese was a good freshman that had some very obvious holes to his game. Not only has he not developed in the areas he was deficient, but he's regressed in what he was good at. He's not the same defender he was at Iowa State, and he's lost his attacking ability. That'll happen when your job becomes watching Marcus Carr and now Abmas chuck 20 shots a game.

I’ll be honest it isn’t just our problem to blow leads. We jumped on them early giving them time to adjust throughout the game. They couldn’t hit a shot.

It’s almost better to make a big run midway through the second half and push to 15+ then. Teams rarely come back from that
I think it was close to that big a lead halfway through the second half. Disu just went off after that.

I didn’t know Lipsey would be this good but even at the time he transferred I was one of the few people on this board saying this was probably his one chance to cash in. He made the right choice and we ended up better anyway.
I think Tyrese transferring to Texas was a bad decision made worse by Beard getting fired. From our perspective I’m fine with how it worked out but for him I think he could have grown into an NBA player given the right situation.

7-2 is great, but not a one seed. There are 2 guaranteed 1 seeds (Purdue, UConn) and a likely third in UNC. That leaves 1. 7-2 would leave us with 7 losses. That would be the 2nd most of any 1 seed in history (2017 Duke had 8, and Illinois, MSU, and Virginia had 7. Those are all blue bloods who get name recognition. I think a 2 seed would be attainable with that. However, I'm guessing we lose 3-4 on road, with a win at either Cinnci or UCF.
Iowa State is currently 9th in NET. North Carolina is 10th. Both teams have five losses. Not sure why you are currently giving UNC the nod over Iowa State? The Big 12 is the best conference in the country by far. A 13-5 winner of the Big 12 will get serious consideration for a #1 seed. A lot of basketball between now and then. It will all sort itself out.

Agree. I'm just going off my eyeball test but I would bet we probably had a double-digit lead for at least 25-30 minutes last night, maybe more. Game was well in hand pretty deep into the second half until Disu hit those two straight threes with a one-legged BRE guarding him.

We're pretty good this year and Texas is down by Texas standards but we still aren't 17 points better than them in Austin, that was a remarkable half.

Because name recognition matters. Seeders are human. It's not all numbers.

I'm not sure I'd call Illinois a blue blood but they did have a higher profile back in the day.

Maybe. I know he's listed at 6' but I don't think he is.

There are only 2 guys under 6' in the NBA currently.

They've basically been cheeks since Self left. That's like 20 years now. They've only been to the tourney 3 times in the last 12 years.

I would disagree there. Name recognition of the Big 12 conference is incredibly strong right now. Uconn, Purdue, Houston are very likely 3 of the 4 #1 seeds. I think the 4th #1 seed may very well have 7 overall losses.

Ummm. Tyrese came to you from a school that is just far better in basketball than you stupid dolts. Texas ... too big? Your clueless egos are off the charts.
I liked the guy on Twitter a couple weeks ago speculating that TJ would leave to take the Arkansas job (?), his main argument was "it's the SEC". I'm not sure if he was aware that it's a basketball job.

I'm a biased homer but to me it would be crazy if whoever wins the Big 12, especially if they also put in a good showing in the Big 12 tourney e.g. get to the final, isn't a #1 seed.

Siap and I missed it. This is DAMN impressive when you look at what a blood bath this conference is every night. To be percentage points out of first at the turn is not something I expected. I'm guilty of nit picking from time to time but you can't take away from how hard this team works and the way they play together.
