Milan Momcilovic banked in a 3-pointer as time expired that would have capped off a chaotic game against No. 18 Baylor with an Iowa State win.

After review, the shot was called off, and the Cyclones came up just one play and a tenth of a second short.

So, @Connor_Ferguson, did you get further explanation for setting the time as 1.2 seconds. Why not 2.0 seconds? If it had happened earlier in the game, I would have assumed that they would have fixed a problem with the clock by resetting it back to where it was.

It all has to do with when the whistle was blown

But they reset clocks all the time without being obligated to the time when the whistle is blown (or the refs arm goes up). They move the clock back to where it should be, restart the play, and don't deduct time when the ball was in play with an incorrect clock.

It likely would had been inbounded under the basket. Plus, even getting a whistle in that situation is a HUGE benefit to ISU. Grabbing a rebound by your own basket with 2.0 seconds left usually results in a 3/4 court heave. Being able to inbound the ball and running a set play greatly benefits the offense.

We were lucky to had been put in that situation. The play took just a little too long to develop.

We actually got a huge benefit. We had 1.2 at 3/4s court instead of 2 under the basket. And we got a timeout.

It was a great play call and execution. Just a couple tenths too long.

Nothing to complain about.
Absolutely, give me the setup we had vs starting underneath the basket or from a missed FT. It was a huge gift otherwise it was a Curtis Jones heave at the end. So really not much to complain about there.

Disagree. You can cover half the court in 2 seconds. Milan was streaking down the left side, he likely gets a very clean look, very similar to Naz’s shot against OSU.

PS. How is it possible that Milan didn’t know there was 1.2 seconds left? Shouldn’t someone have.. informed him?

I'd have to go back and see what the official said into the mic, could barely hear him.

He mentioned something about it being 0.5 seconds late to start when Iowa State secured the rebound. I don't believe they were attempting to call timeout, and that may have been the real reason it didn't go back to 2.0. I don't believe the official's mic was on the pa nor that they alerted teams of 1.2, but that's just me making an educated guess based on Momcilovic's quote. Freshman mistake for sure.

CW: "I'm not drunk...I just love the Clones."

I love the passion, CW, but a friendly tip. Mic discipline is pretty important. Too many bemoaning grunts directly into the mic made your postgame very hard to listen to.

It was impossible to have "too many" bemoaning grunts after this game!

The game made the postgame very hard to listen to!

But if they rebounded the ball by their own hoop, the clock starts when they touch the ball. They then would need a long pass while the clock is running. This would lead to no time left to get a good shot away.

But now you are inbounding the ball. You can pass the ball a long ways with zero time coming off the clock. An offense can get a much better shot off because they get the benefit of passing the ball with no time coming off.

And the Naz play had far more than 2.0 seconds. A quick search on YouTube showed 5.0 seconds left. Night and day difference

We were watching at Inside Golf in Ames. Most of the TV's were streaming, but ours was synced with the radio broadcast. So, we had to go through everything twice.

Yeah there was 5 seconds on Naz’s shot but I thought he shot it about 2 seconds. And that was with a pass up and a bobble and a side dribble.

Anyway, I’m still wondering how Milan didn’t know there was 1.2 seconds. Like, wtf coaches?

You're right. What a game.

I was listening to the postgame though, with Chris, and I kept having to turn the volume down, to the point I couldn't hear the dialogue, in order not to wake my wife in the next room.

I should have just put my earbuds on.

So maybe they thought it was going to be 1.5 sec based on what the ref said?

Naz let go of the ball with under 1 second left. It took them 4 seconds to get a good look. In fact, the play started with 5.0 seconds left. With 3.2 seconds left, Naz didn’t even have the ball in his hands, and he was before the half court line.

Regarding the shot tonight, Milan is a freshman. He will learn to get off a quicker shot when needed.

Yeah my guess there would be that he looked up and thought the 2 was a 5. Who knows? It's on iowa state radio so it's not like they're going to press him. Hope people dont take it out on Milan though. No guarantee it goes in if conditions are changed
