Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Looking forward to 2GNC tomorrow

Yeeesh. I don't know how bad this will get, but Fran might not make it to next season with this new AD they have. If I'm Beth Goetz, unless Fran can somehow salvage an NIT berth, I think I get rid of him to make a statement and get her guy in there to put her stamp on the program right away. Hopefully she Barta's this and that doesn't happen.

Fran needed to sit Sandfort and put in Bowen - the Hoks needed a defensive stop, not an offensive hail mary.
Bowen has barely played and hasn't scored in their last 2 games I noticed. He seems like a good kid with decent potential. Hope he can get out of Iowa City for his last seasons of eligibility.

Holy ****. I guess I didn't realize how bad this loss was for Iowa. Maryland is 99th in the NET so losing to them at home is REAL bad. Losing to Maryland and an even worse Michigan at home...they just suck.

How much will they drop with this loss in the NET and KenPom and BT?
It is the type of loss where, even if they are anywhere close to the bubble come March, probably puts them on the wrong side of the field.

What is it about #3? I don't know this story.

Not really a secret that Bohannon wasn't very well liked by teammates and was dbag off the court. I would guess the other two he was referring to are Connor and Patrick. I have always heard good things about Patrick as a person though. More of a victim of the nepotism situation and people not liking his dad.

If Goetz was willing to let Brian Ferentz go, she'll have no problem letting Fran go.

I think the bigger question is, what would actually motivate the Iowa fanbase to actually show up to games? They haven't routinely packed Carver since the early Alford years - a couple decades ago. I think it's time to admit that Iowa fans largely don't care about men's basketball.
They are certainly good at pretending they don't. Wait til Darian DeVries has them rolling again a year or two from now...

And it wasn’t the venues fault and I’m sure it was more than 4K.
When you're a top wrestling program, you fill the place. When you have the most famous female athlete in the world essentially, you fill the place. Iowa basketball is just not a fun product without a guy like Garza / Murray. That's not to say that Fran and Iowa hasn't had some success (although limited), but there comes a point where it's just not worth people's time to go watch unathletic white guys play zero defense and pray they make double digit threes to win games.

Nothing wrong with having Iowa players that are good enough for this level (Wieskamp, the Murray’s, Uthoff), the problem is Fran has always been a terrible recruiter and NIL is only magnifying that. Actually really amazing what Iowa accomplished under Fran considering his lack of recruiting.
He has recruited some good Iowa kids, no doubt. But a lot of bad ones, too, and a lot of just bad players from other places. He has routinely over the course of his tenure, played guys rotational minutes that would be lucky to sniff the floor on any ISU team in recent memory, save for Prohm's 2 -win team.

Iowa has 5 guys who get minutes who should be playing down a level.

I am curious about this too. I've long believed Perkins to be a douche, and was confirmed in that by the Let Him Cook podcast here on CF. Nigel Dyson I believe grew up with him, either knowing and/or playing against him. Wonder if he would be one of the three.

Harding will be back.
Harding is the type of kid that won't go away unless he gets run off. And Fran, even though he is a big meany to the media and refs, doesn't have much of a track record of running off his under performing or under qualified players. He hopes they just see the light, like Riley Mulvey.

Now do the ones that weren't...
