*** Official Kansas State vs #23 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Re-watching the last 4 minutes. What an absolute ****show by those refs right around the 4 minute mark.

Our guy is trying to block out for a rebound and gets called for a foul. Then King did absolutely nothing but gets called when the K-State player knocked down his own teammate.

I wish there was a game log where I could verify the subs and exact timing, bur Ik fairly certain Ward was on the bench until about the last 30 seconds. I'm aware he had 4 fouls but always think it's senseless, when late in the game, to arbitrarily limit a player's minutes. By doing so you are artificially guaranteeing they are playing the least amount of minutes possible. I've never understood that line of thinking.
This really does not matter anymore and I'm incredibly late with this response, but I watched the replay yesterday and here's how much Ward played towards the end.

6:38 - 4:46 : picked up his 4th foul
1:38 - :32 : we went Offense defense here
:23 - end of the game

During the stretch of the 4:46-1:38, Rob was only in there a little bit as we went with Tre King at the 5 for about half of that time.

The test will be if they can keep things up enough through February. Last season saw a huge drop and part of that may have been lack of depth/energy but part also may have been that teams figured out how to beat their defense vs. real talent level.

The dynamics of perhaps having to appease Grill with his issues may have played a part too.

A few guys played lots of minutes in the bye games but those were often very spread out.
I think there's going to be a stretch for everyone where you lose 3 games in a row, maybe to teams you don't think you should lose to. It's just that tough. There are no nights off, no breathers, no space to just coast.

Knocked down his own teammate, the guy then flopped…took away an ISU basket…fouled out an ISU starter.

Every bit as bad as the also really bad call where the defender didn’t touch Milan. Far greater effect on the actual game.

Yep, that's why the WV game probably makes me more leery than any others.

It's the only real potential 'bad loss' I see if you take into account everyone's capabilities.

I'll stay in the 'just get 4-5 more wins and you're in' camp because 'they're cruising now!' is the kiss of death. That's a Big 12 thing but also just college basketball now.

Yeah, the moment you let up, you are going to have a problem. I love our depth for this reason. Should be a little fresher this year than we have been in the past, and more able to overcome foul trouble like we had last night.

The play where Tang got T'd up? I watched it numerous times and it does look like he got him with his legs and almost stepped on his foot. Very questionable call, but with how ticky-tack they were calling I think it was a valid foul.

Maybe I’ll watch it again, seemed to me like he didn’t even touch MM.

Nobody is talking about first half play where we got a clean block and a ksu player kicked his legs and flopped to get 3 points in that blown call. The crew really did suck.

All they have to do is rotate the chairs by 90, problem solved.
That's the most confusing part. That, and in the video, TJ makes the hand motion I would associate with, "Yeah, a little bit". So who the hell knows what was happening. I think Tang just wanted to be angry at someone and he took it out on TJ.

All good.

I don't know why ESPN and other major sports outlets can't have boxcores with subtitutions/times.

Also from my NBA friend...

Thoroughly impressed with Momcilovic. Would definitely want him in the draft as high as in the late lottery as a big-time Spurs fan. Good body, height, excellent footwork even if limited athletically and mediocre wingspan for his size, but his shooting and offensive moves made him go "wow."

He couldn't believe an 18-year old freshman had such a polished, NBA-ready offensive game.

Yeah, here it is at 10:12 in:

KSU never did quite take the lead in this one...

I'm still trying to figure out what Tre did on his 5th also. It looks like he's just standing under the basket and Ward gets a clean block from behind.

Milan actually did get tripped on that play. If you watch the replay, K-State's guys leg goes into Milan's cylinder causing him to trip, which is a foul.

I didn't think it was egregiously bad. Embellished? Absolutely, but any time a play lands on top of another like that you can expect a call.

Would it have been called had the player not went down (easily). Maybe not. But sometimes Ward is frustrating is that he comes at or into players when he doesn't need to and often times he shouldn't even really jump. He's an effective defender when he stays on the floor or goes straight up.

Lots of **** calls both ways. To be fair I thought the worst call was the no call on BRE in the first half where he bodied the **** out of a player AND contacted the arms on a shot near the basket. It wasn't obscured and was in PLAIN site of the officials. No call.

Needless to say it's one of the worst officiated games (both ways and for an entire game) I can recall.

Thinking it over again this morning and last night's game was a travesty of pacing thanks to the referee crew. They were constantly at the scorers table, inverting calls for physicality every few minutes, leaving looks of bewilderment on players of both teams.

Does the head of officiating at the Big 12 review performances at all or is it just a situation now where they need any warm body due to the number of games and supply of refs?

I going with the bolded.

I'd be interested to see what the officiating budget is for the conference. Also, I don't think it's only the Big 12 that has this problem.

I think it's time for the conference (perhaps in partnership with the Big Ten and SEC) to put together an officiating consortium using some of that TV $$$$ to clean up the officiating crapshow. There should be plenty of money available to deal with this. But, that likely won't happen, since college basketball is just a business now, and as long as people keep watching and the revenue keeps rolling in, there is no incentive for the schools to spend money to improve the officiating.

Or how would TJ get the info and be able to do anything about it? Does TJ have a reciever hidden under his comb over? Tang completely screwed Kstate with that late T. Thank you Jerome Tang!!
EXACTLY......the T buried them (before that i was feeling pretty uneasy about what the outcome would be).

It seems we (the fans, players, etc) got under their skin and that was the tipping point.

Pay attention if you are at a game. Managers from both teams are walking around, giving stat sheets, wiping the floor, etc. If Tang thinks we are doing some "Michigan" type stuff, no way.

LOL....next thing you know they will claim the Bankers Trust bank shot participants and the "win a lawn mower" participants are secretly listening into the huddle.

And I do quote...

"He's look great in silver and black!"

NFL and NBA officiating is miles better than college officiating. Those professional leagues are 100%+ businesses while college still has some of that amateurism fading out of its DNA now.

The NFL and NBA wouldn't put resources into it if they felt it hurt rather than aided their bottom lines.
