Hopefully someone at the game can back this up, but I think it’s just that the ESPN2/U/+ mics are pretty awful. When they bring in big ESPN with the best mics, it tends to sound like it does in person.

Reminds me of when musicians wear long sleeves, jackets, etc during a show when it's hot AF. I'm dying in the crowd and they are running around on stage with pants and jackets.
