49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

They need a game manager that can get the ball in the hands of all their talent, make good decisions, show poise, and be consistent. He's doing that really well. Anything else is just BS talk.

Would Purdy look or do the same with the Packers? Don't know and don't really care, he's with the 49ers. Would Justin Fields look or do the same with the 49ers? I don't give a ****, he's not with them and is about to be replaced by a rookie.

Here’s the thing: talk to just about any successful NFL QB and they’ll tell you that EVERY NFL QB is a “system QB”.

Yes, QB is usually the most important position in football, and yes, finding the right QB can and will change the fate of an entire franchise, but football is a team game. Adding the “right QB” won’t matter much immediately unless the other pieces are already in place. And before anyone says “C.J. Stroud”, the Texans drafted a LOT of the right pieces with what was probably an all-time draft in 2023 for them.

Not to mention how many teams have won a Super Bowl without having the “right QB” in place?
 
49er fans are everywhere in the states, so it's more beneficial for shock-jocks to rile up the fan base for more clicks.

I do not know what more Brock can do for himself physically, he could be tapped out, which is ok (his 10 yard split was 1.54 seconds, which is the same as Russell Wilson, that's not nothing). Mentally though, that's where he'll need to make his $$$. He may never be able to have the ability of a Lamar/Allen and even Mahomes, but he doesn't have to anymore to be successful in the set-up he's in. Mentally gifted athletes aren't going to get the respect until they have the championships, while physically gifted are always gonna get instant props. Physically, it's the instant feedback that you're watching someone special.

Anyone get can smarter, but not everyone and get bigger or taller or faster, so everyone judges different, but for Brock, that's ok.

Hunter Dekkers taught us turnovers and game management decisions have no impact. It is your measurables and occasional highlights that make the decision as whether to keep playing. Don’t believe your eyes and ears. Believe the experts. That thought JaMarcus Russell was the #1

They miss the mental part of the game and the toughness Brock has. Guy is a competitor

Any too small comments are silly. He's listed at 6'-1". 220lbs. That's bigger than guys like Murray and Russ. He's a little smaller than Mahomes. An inch shorter, but heavier than Lamar. It's only when you see him next to guys like Allen, Lawrence, or more specially his own O-line does he ever look small.

I just don’t get media lovefest with Lamar Jackson. Is he clutch in the playoff? No. Monster passing number? No. Accurate passer? No. His first MVP was well deserved but he doesn’t deserve it this year. The national media says Jackson had unbelievable year. How about Purdy? No one is saying Purdy had an unbelievable year. He has more yards and TD than Jackson and is better at almost all important QB stats. Jackson won 13 games mostly because of Ravens defense.

A lot of it is the media wants someone to be Mahomes rival. Its better for tv shows, talk radio, etc..They've tried Allen a few times and Burrow was hurt this year. This year Lamar is the guy. I agree Lamar doesn't really have big wins and shown the ability to be clutch. I do think he's a pretty good QB though. He's got all the physical attributes, not sure about the mental.

It felt like there was no transcendent QB performances this year. No one got close to 5K, top TDs was mid-30's, no one led their team to 14+ wins. Honestly had Josh Allen cut out about a third of his Ints and had Buffalo won another game or two, he probably takes it easily. 44 combined TDs is beastly and he led the league in total offense.

If BP had not had 4ints vs the Ravens, and so on. . . .

Josh Allen had too many losses and interceptions. Which is what holds him back from MVP.

So all he had to do was drastically reduce the most negative stat in football that costs your team games.

Allen is really fun to watch, and I know you're not saying this, but people like to throw the turnover thing like it's some marginal thing. It's like a shooting guard that can't shoot.

It's the "game manager" nonsense. People that don't understand the game think that being the guy that is best suited to pull a Houdini and turn a doomed play into something huge every once in a while is how you define a great QB. Guess what, when a play got blown up or was thrown off schedule, Tom Brady was pretty **** worthless at that.

Here's the reality. The Bills won half of their 10 regular season games when Allen had a QBR of under 90. The 49ers won one game in which Purdy did that (and was barely under at 86.7).

In fact, the two teams that did the best job of winning games when their QB did not have a great game were the Bills and Ravens. Supposedly two teams that are super reliant on their QBs.

Josh Allen isn't deserving of being an MVP finalist. It's about performance, not highlight reels and a completely made-up narrative about how much is on his shoulders.

I think Jackson wins MVP this season. The best way to prove these voters wrong is to win the SB. I'm sure Brock would rather win the SB than the MVP as well
