Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

Come on @Gonzo for dumbing this, you have to admit it's absolutely bonkers the attention he's giving this - and obviously not giving any updates to state he overreacted based on additional angles. He was the same creepy obsessed with Shawn Johnson.

I've said many times before, people here would respect her and her accomplishments if she wasn't such a show-boat and seemingly all about herself player. Example is Cooper DeJean - we all talk incredibly highly of his freakish abilities and accomplishments because he seems like a stand up, team first kind of guy.
Referencing the recent tragedy seems unnecessary.

I don't listen to him, but I agree 100% that it was a flop and embarrassing all the attention it's gotten. I just think pulling in the Perry school shooting thing to ridicule it isn't at all necessary.

Very good point and a bad oversight on my part. I have updated the post and apologize for any perception of disrespect where there is absolutely none.

Iowa fans, and media, just cannot accept the fact that CC is an amazing women's college basketball player, probably in the conversation for one of the best ever.... but that she's also a big time drama queen that is also disrespectful on the court to other players (she did the "can't see me thing" several times before Angel Reese mocked her for it, etc), and not the greatest teammate either.

She's not a bad human being by any means, she's a good person... she's just not everything that the Iowa fans and media want her to be and portray her as. She signs autographs for a few kids after games, and they treat her like that's something nobody has ever done in history... when basically every well known college athlete does the exact same thing. She is a big time flopper on the court, it's all on video... and she's a chronic whiner and complainer too. She's not a perfect person folks... and that's okay... just don't try to portray her as that when she isn't.

Angel Reese is the devil according to most Hawk fans I know.... but CC does the same kind of antics all the time. I work with people who still have no idea that CC was doing the "you don't know me" thing LONG before Reese did... and that Reese was just mocking CC.

CC is an amazing talent... just leave it at that. She isn't everything you want her to be or portray her as.... so stop it. She's an ultra competitor... and along with that comes some of the other negative things about her. She is NOT perfect! She isn't helping old ladies cross the street in IC on her free time. Get over this worship!

Spot on. We can all take our blinders off and recognize talent and accomplishments even by Hawks. But 1 - it's absolutely overboard, 2 - she does the same things her defenders blame others for, and 3 - she comes across as all about herself rather than the team - fairly or not.

It has nothing to do about race or gender. Cooper DeJean is one of the most gifted athletes on either team in quite some time and most people on here recognize that and talk openly about it because he always talks about team-first, shared accomplishments, and doesn't portray a perception of self-gratitude.

I don't blame you at all for having fun with this, pretty ridiculous situation. Reading through the posts here has been entertaining and funny.

For the most part, ISU fans are having fun with this, and joking about what a spectacle this nothing incident has become, but also pointing out that CC is pretty overly dramatic about things.

But some Iowa fans, and amazingly media members too, are actually wanting this OSU fan to be arrested for assault. C'mon now people... that is absolutely moronic and over the top. That is why Iowa fans and media deserve to be mocked about this stuff. It's crazy stupid how this poor girl is being worshipped like a goddess by some Iowa fans and media. Get over it!

Two acceptable takes:
1. Non-story. Let's move on. Seems to be what TGNC and the actual Iowa team are trying to do now even if their initial comments make them look bad blaming a fan who really did nothing wrong. Ohio State's fan and the one particular fan did absolutely nothing wrong because court storming is common and no need for anybody on that end to apologize. Accidents happen, move on.

2. Clark shoved a fan because she was pi$$ed they lost, fell down on purpose like a baby, and pretended to be injured for a while. (frankly the video evidence points to this one pretty clearly and option #1 is just a good strategy to downplay it all)

Anything other than those is just the most ridiculous thing I've heard in my life.

You couldn't design more humble and hard to hate guys in a lab than the Murray twins, Haliburton and Purdy. If CC handled her business like those four 99% of this goes away, she's free to be who she is though and who she is kind of involves being a jerk sometimes, flopping, faking, and throwing elbows.

You don't see any in state rival fans raging against Murray twins or Haliburton...for some reason especially last year there was a lot of crazy jealous rage from Iowa fans with Purdy.

It's more fun to watch Iowa fans be totally irrational.

I really don't like or dislike CC any more or less for it.

It's hilarious to listen to them try to bend the laws of reality. It's also funny how 90% of their boards are now wbb and they have just fully given up on mbb in the 18th year of their coach with a long term contract.

A lot of Nebraska fans started putting volleyball ahead of Husker football for some crazy reason. Tradition is fickle.

Their irrational behavior scares me for her victim. That Cyclone Alley kid knows all too well how that goes and Pemsl was no where close to the adoration that CC gets.

It just confirms to me that the image of sainthood they try to promote for a great basketball player is the part that is the most annoying. It simply isn’t reality.

I just don't see her coming back for a 5th year. Iowa loses the majority of her supporting cast as far as guards go.

If she were smart she would give money to Iowa's NIL fund so they can bring in better players for her to play with next year and make a run for the title.

I'm somewhat familiar with the Murray family... and they did an amazing job raising those two boys. You could not find two more humble and enjoyable people to be around than Keegan and Kris. I feel like Cooper Dejean is probably similar, although not as familiar with him. And as you said, Haliburton and Purdy are also amazing examples.

Now... with that being said... everyone is different... and that's fine. CC is NOT like the above mentioned people. She is not a bad person at all, in fact I'm sure she's a great person. But especially on the court, she plays with a chip on her shoulder you could say. She's not how some people would want their kids to act on the court, but it's not like she's physically tripping people or poking people in the eye, etc, etc. It's just her antics, her whining to the officials, and her over dramatic flopping, etc. It's nothing harmful.

But for whatever reason... Iowa fans and media cannot just admit this about her. She is a goddess to them that can do no wrong. They've built this image of her of who they'd like her to be, and she's just not that. She is an amazing talent. But she's not everything else they are portraying her to be... and that's fine. Everyone is different.
