*** Official #24 IOWA STATE vs #19 TCU Game(Day) Thread ***

Just got the chance to watch the last 10 minutes. Whew! I might have grey hair if I watched it live!

I'm sure it was discussed earlier in thread, but I don't think we win without Damarion Watson's effort today. His athleticism and length matched up well against TCU. He had 6 pts, led the team in rebounds and had a big block with less than a minute left.

I feel like Watson or Paveletzke will need to step up while Lipsey's out. Today it was Watson and same might go for KSU.

Thanks for trying to get inside my head, but that's not how it works at all. It's more venting and this being an outlet for letting out frustrations.

The main reason why I was complaining after the game is I came and posted right away how much of an idiot I was and admitted I was wrong about writing this team off today.

Did that get any attention? Nope, completely ignored while somebody digs up a post from noon today instead where I thought we were screwed without Lispey.
I get it. I almost didn’t want to watch today. Thinking they were going to get killed without lipsey. But I’m glad I did.

Realistic scenario exists where we win our next five games and place ourselves in a position we haven’t seen since 2001 Tinsley year.

1/24 K-State (home)
1/27 Kansas (home)
2/3 Baylor (away) ((kind of our beotch under TJ especially without Tang assisting)
2/6 Texas (away) (Texas isn’t real good)
2/10 TCU (home) already beat them and TJ kind of owns TCU

Sign me up for 3-2 lol. Happy to win today but it's a wild ride in the Big 12.

Y'all are way more optimistic than me, I'm here thinking this is great because now we can drop one at home and still finish 9-9.

I think .500 in the Big 12 still gets you into the tourney this year, at least with the rest of our resume now (wins vs. Houston and @ TCU). Would feel a lot better about 10-8 though. There's too many good teams in the Big 12 for us to run the table at home but I think we can also pick up another roadie (Texas, Cinci, UCF, KState all very winnable games).

Hoping the performance yesterday is a springboard for C.Jones and Keshon for the rest of the year. If they both play like that consistently then we will be very competitive.

KenPom has us favored in 11 of the last 13 games. I think because all of CBB is down this year, we are underestimating our own guys. There really isn’t an elite team or group of teams that can’t be beaten this year. If players like Curtis, Demarion, Omaha all start finding their roles, who knows where we end up?

What’s even more absurd is that the B12 conference level of competition is so high, it’s almost hard for a B12 team to not have some success in a certain march tournament

I never once talked about what my goals are for the team, so why do you ask?

I only want them to reach their own goals they set for themselves. I can imagine they have some fairly lofty goals... most teams do.

Am I a bad fan for wanting them to reach their goals this season, and be happy?

I doubt if their only goal this year was to beat TCU on the road... but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe they have nothing left to play for this year? I really doubt it though.
I'm pretty sure what they were saying is your goal, "must go on road and beat all ranked teams in the big 12 by X points," or is it "win enough games to get an X seed in the tournament," or is it, "play just well enough to have the maximum amount of games in a year that I can have a reason to ***** about something?"

I understand a little why you want to be critical, but I think we all have watched enough basketball to know that the Cyclones gave up big lead, they did not "blow it." That would mean they lost, OK?

Now, Let's change the perspective.

How many times have WE made last minute shots or made big runs toward the end of the game only to have the other team hold us off like a big brother while we were swinging wildly at the air. (Which is exactly what we did yesterday.) Did we win those games, did it make the other team bad or us better? Did they automatically go on a 5 game skid becuase we somehow made the game close after they knew they could shut it down a little? No, it just meant they managed the game well enough to win and probably had 0 to do with the remainder of their season. And the last time I checked that's all that matters (except for all the metrics I guess.)

If getting beat or losing big leads or having to play a tight game and pull it out in the end at an opponents house meant you were a bad team, then Self would have been fired years ago just becuase of the Clones. The fact is we won, the margin doesn't matter, and it usually doesn't have that much to do with the next game.

Yours is a special kind of crying and whining that really irks multiple people so maybe there’s something to it.
Gunner hit it well here. There is analysis that may pinpoint weaknesses. For instance, I have been guilty of suggesting we not trap every time down the court. It really bothers me because I feel like if you just pull that back a little it becomes even more effective as the other team isn't just reflexively capable of running their offense. A little like you can't back cut on every offensive possession. So, I do it too.

But, I don't say that we are going to suck for the rest of the year, or we won't win another game OR if that happens ever again we won't win any of the upcoming games ESPECIALLY after road win in the big 12.

I'd probably go right to the positive thing that happened like, "hey at least we didn't give them a 4 point play at the end there, that would have been soooo ISU." It may be a little extreme, but I was proud of the guys for not interfering at all with that last shot becuase YOU KNOW the officials would have given them the benefit of the doubt and put them at the line. AND YOU KNOW their 47% free throw shooter would have nailed it.

Saying things in frustration during the game is natural to someone who cares. AND, making statements that will look bad in the future, we all do on occasion. For instance, I usually don't want anyone to knock out any other player in a game that doesn't involve the clones, but I say facetious things like that during the game to vent. You express it in a different way. I'm overly supportive of the clones during the games, you might be more critical.

But, maybe after win, on the road, at a big 12 opponent, that is ranked ahead of us, without our main point guard who is one of our best players, after getting trounced at another big 12 opponent on the road, you could hold off on the critical analysis for like 10 minutes after the game. That might help things a bit.

Try the "say a nice thing, provide criticism, say another nice thing" method. People might give you a break then.
