*** Official #24 IOWA STATE vs #19 TCU Game(Day) Thread ***

It's just insane to me how some on here, including CW and Rob Gray evidently, cannot possibly fathom how some of us fans can be absolutely THRILLED that we won today, on the road, in the best conference in the country, without our best player, against a top 20 team... AND also feel like there's a few things this team needs to work on to reach where they want to get by the end of the season.

It's the same exact thing with football.

I guarantee you 100% that TJ is not happy whatsoever with how our 19 pt lead disappeared down to 1 in the last 10 minutes of that game today. So is he not a true fan of ISU then? We did not play well, particularly in the last 5 minutes, today at all. And playing like that down the stretch will cost you in future games if you don't learn how to figure it out and keep your composure in those moments. TJ will watch that film and not be happy with what he sees, and will work with the guys to figure it out. It doesn't mean TJ isn't thrilled to get that win today, of course he is, but he also knows this team will not get to where it wants to be at the end of the year if they don't work on that.

I don't know how many times some of us have to say that we are absolutely thrilled with getting the W today. Just because we think there's some things to work on does NOT make us bad fans. Why the hate? Geeez... lighten up! We're all on the same team here folks!

As fans we aren't allowed to analyze the games? If so, I apologize.
You, Nocreativity, and a very small, very persistent number of others, don't just point out negatives, you dwell on them. Sure, you throw in the "thrilled with the win," but your posts reveal the opposite. Your hope, every game, is to be able to say, "I told you so" after a loss. So you have to grasp for any negative and beat it to death after a win. Even after a road win over a ranked team, accomplished with the best player on the team out with an injury.

This. Exactly this.

FWIW, @madguy30 posts A LOT. We are all keeping tabs, and we all have our moments. We're all ISU fans so there's plenty of nut cupping to go around.

That's not what we are discussing here. In fact, I would argue the bar for acceptable criticism is exceptionally low here because of it.

So if one stands out to the regulars for being unhinged from a negativity standpoint, rest assured it's particularly egregious.

Too much. WAY too much.

I will forever be in the school of 'no lead is safe' and it's possible to acknowledge trends without acting like the sky is falling after a ******* win.

The team plays hard, and has limitations; it would be fun to see them get to the tourney and win a game or two.

Matchups are going to be different but with TCU, we really needed Watson and they came back a bunch with Pav in.

C. Jones and Gilbert came through, but seemed a little dicey down the stretch.

Watson and Ward just seem to have a more extensive skill set than some of our other guys. Not sure we pull that game out without Watson’s block.
Length with hops!

That block was unreal. It was probably a foot or so off the release. That is incredibly hard to do and Watson made it look easy. Very impressive.

Thanks for trying to get inside my head, but that's not how it works at all. It's more venting and this being an outlet for letting out frustrations.

The main reason why I was complaining after the game is I came and posted right away how much of an idiot I was and admitted I was wrong about writing this team off today.

Did that get any attention? Nope, completely ignored while somebody digs up a post from noon today instead where I thought we were screwed without Lispey.

I’m glad I’ve been on the C Jones bandwagon from the beginning. He’s been doing everything he did today, except scoring, all season. Really felt like he needed to let loose and take the shots. You never have to worry about what’s going to happen with the ball in his hand, like you sometimes do with Gilbert or Pav. He just needs more of Gilbert’s confidence and to take a chance sometimes.

Hope he continues to grow and when Tamin comes back keeps a big roll. He can play 1,2,3, or even 4 when we go small ball.
C Jones and Pav both "pulled the trigger" on their shots faster today.

Generally speaking, normal teams mentally take an L before the tip.

You can't quantify what TJ, an ISU Guy to boot, brings to the table and permeates from the top down.

Fight.
I am definitely happy with the win, because as we know Big 12 road wins are hard to come by.....it's just the constant ability to let teams back in the game.....I was not expecting even a double-digit win, but we led by double digits the majority of the game and let the game pretty much come down to us making ft's to win.....we played great for 99% of the game and then almost lost it there at the end.

BUT this team has tons of reliance and they played so hard despite not having their leader on the court.

We are in good shape if we can win Wednesday. Kansas State plays 10 games in conference against ranked teams. So far they have only played one ranked team in their first 5 games (very hard to do when 8 teams are ranked). We have played 4 ranked teams in 5 games. So, we beat K State, their next game is at Houston. Things start to even out finally.
