*** Official #24 IOWA STATE vs #19 TCU Game(Day) Thread ***

A little of everything. Imploded. Turnovers. You know, stunk it up a little. To be honest TCU there for a while couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. Should’ve creamed them by at least twenty.

Lucky to pull that one out. Difference late in the game was ISU played not to lose offensively instead of to win.

Super glad they pulled out the W! But these blown double digit leads by TJ are getting old
Win on the road without your best player and leader. On the road in the B12 you take any win no matter how unsavory it appears. Aesthetics are for Doll houses and love making.

I’m worn out. Feel like I was in a fight.

So happy the guys pulled it out. Great win!

I don’t think the officials were great in the 2nd half, but not nearly as bad as some think.

We just have to play a LOT smarter…. including our coaches. That was nearly text book down the stretch on how to blow a game you have in control. Horrible decision after horrible decision. Luckily we were up 19 at one point instead of 18 I guess?

WTF does this even mean?

Hopefully there was a bit of 'growing up' today with finding a way.

Took some luck with TCU missing those bunnies but I can think of plenty of times when that's what it took.

I ******* hate KSU bball for some reason so hopefully ISU can get that on Wednesday.

Refs were trash but there is no point in complaining about it.

What can you say about Cujo and Gilbert? Nearly 40 combined points and sub 5 TOs. Then add in tremendous D from both. Co players of the game.

Also have to like Milans evolution. His defense has become an asset, his awareness is improved, and his shot selection was pretty good even when he missed.

The bad? Basically 3 things and 3 things only. The biggest is the rebounding. Good lord was that brutal with the sequence on their last possession being a summation of poor blockouts, jump timing, and handles. I know the rainbow and unicorn warriors that c9mprise most of this board will disagree, but Otz almost cost us the game with some really bad rotation decisions/combos. You can't have Pavs and Omaha out there at the same time, and he played BRE way too much there in the 2nd half. Bre and King out there at the same time, with the way the 2nd half was unfolding, was a bad decision. Last is the FT shooting. Can't be your own worst enemy at the line.

The team defense was utterly fantastic for the entire game. The effort, tenacity, and anticipation almost singlehandedly won it for us. If only our anticipation was half as good on the boards.

Awesome win. Wasn't expecting this without Lipsey.
When we were up 72-67, the TCU guy used his right arm to shove Watson out of the way & the ensuing offensive rebound led to an easy score. If that sequence happens at the 10:35 second mark, instead of the 35 second mark, it is called a foul against TCU. It was a blatant push off. Watson had good enough a position to secure the ball or, at the very least, a tie-up. In another sequence (late in the game), there was a scrum on the floor off a TCU miss - they were able to get it and drop in a floater. My point is that 4 points from offensive RBs toward the end of the game had nothing to do with "positioning." But, yes, we still had some bad block outs at times. Watson played awesome today & Biliew gave us some great minutes in the first half!

It’s unfortunately a bit of a trend in the TJ era. Many things can be true at once.

GREAT WIN.
The WIN is all that matters.
Great effort, great fight today. So proud!
TJ’s teams almost always see big leads dwindle in conference. It is OK to call this out. Really hope they adjust some things to focus on taking care of the ball and playing with less nerves and more confidence down the stretch. And yes I/we know - all games are tough in this conference, and winning on the road is very, very hard. Doesn’t make it ‘acceptable’ to struggle to close out games where we have huge leads.
The refs sucked - and them sucking really hurt us and benefited the home team.

This 1000%.

2 things can be true…. it was a FANTASTIC win…. AND….. we need to learn how to close games out better and not give up leads by making boneheaded decisions down the stretch.

Us lifelong 50+ year long Cyclone fans know that if we don’t improve in certain areas…. it will definitely cost us in another game or two down the road.

So you aren't nervous about that game? I mean usually if the % is that far skewed it should be a no sweat win.
Of course I'm nervous, it's big 12 basketball and Iowa St, but computers don't care about feelings. Kst is like #50, and Iowa St was 9th before today.

Today's win by Iowa St was a pretty big upset. K St's chances Wednesday, are similar to what Iowa St's were today. So can KSt win? Yes, but it would be a pretty decent upset.

Keshon got a little crazy in the last few minutes. Would have really helped to have Tamin in there to calm things down. Hopefully it’s a learning opportunity. We needed big games from Gilbert and Curt Jones to win and we got it.
