Days of Thunder = NASCAR's Top Gun

Given @ChrisMWilliams's statement on the Williams and Blum podcast that Days of Thunder was the best movie ever, I decided to watch it for the first time a few days ago.

My take: it is basically NASCAR's version of Top Gun. There are some many parallels; it is uncanny.

Good movie, but not the best ever. Also not as good as Top Gun which is elite.

So I'm with @brentblum on this.

Pretty much every Tom Cruise movie is Top Gun in a different milieu.
Top Gun
Top Lawyer
Top Agent
Top Bartender
Top Race Car Driver
Top Soldier
Top Father
Top Cop
Top Pool Player
etc etc

Days of Thunder is better when you realize Robert Duvall is the main character, not Tom Cruise.
