MLB: Kerry Wood Injured AGAIN!

As a White Sox fan, for some reason I always liked Kerry Wood! Maybe it was because I was comparing him to Marc Prior...in which case everyone would be more likable. Anyway, I am amazed that teams keep handing out the sums of money they do to guys like Kerry Wood. Always hurt. This seems minor now...but we have heard this way too many times before. That said, it doesn't bother me a bit that one of Cleveland's important pickups might be out of the lineup for part of the season? Or the guy might be back tomorrow...you never know with Wood.

Kerry Wood and Mark Prior both did good things for the Cubs. Having said that I would rather have not had them at all.

Kerry never complained, and never asked for more money, like Prior did going into the 2005 season (could have been 2006, not sure). Last year, was the healthiest Kerry had been in a long time, and the first time since 1998 that he didn't have problems with his elbow or shoulder.

I wish he was still with the team, but I'm glad he got a big contract from someone, because I think he's earned it. Kerry always did things the right way in Chicago, always came to play when he could, and always stood up like a man when he got beat. You could say he was the anti-Sosa.

That being said, I'm more than a little concerned about Gregg setting up for Marmol, 'cause I remember the last time the Cubs forced a dynamite set up man into the closers role.

I couldn't disagree with this more (the part about Kerry, anyway). It sucks that he got hurt a lot, but he gave us everything he had. We got so many memorable performances out of him (of course including the 20 strikeout game), and we wouldn't have even been close to sniffing the series in '03 without him (still hurts to think about that year, though). He's one of my favorites of all-time because he bled Cubbie blue.

I totally agree. It's one of those "the ride with you was worth the fall, my friend" sort of things. I'll always be grateful that Kerry got to do what he did/could in a Cubs uniform.

I wouldn't have minded the other way, either. Don't get me wrong.

On our vacation weekend part of our Jamaica trip, I had mapped out that we would have a chance potentially to watch the Cubbies win the WS in Wrigley from our hotel room.

If his money would have done that, I'd be all over it.

He and Prior were essential to getting as far as we did in 2003. While that ended painfully, and neither of them were the same pitcher after that season, they certainly earned their pay THAT year.
