Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

They have a legitimate chance to beat Purdue at home. I am not very high on Purdue at all. Edey is good but there are so many flaws in their backcourt I'm not sure how they can be seriously considered as an elite team.

Purdue's backcourt is actually a good matchup for Iowa as they aren't overly athletic and have allowed some pretty high shooting percentages, especially in their losses. If Iowa can bait Purdue into chucking a bunch of 3s (they shot 33!!! against Nebraska), while shooting it well themselves, they can win. Make anyone beat you besides Edey. It's the anti-Garza approach.
If Patrick is healthy they have no chance against Purdue.

I legitimately feel bad for him. Not sure if it's mental, physical, or both, but he's been bad. Other than the obvious reason, I'm not sure why he would start, let alone average more than 5-7 minutes per game.

So what is going on with Omaha at this point? Was he over rated? In the dog house? Just not ready for this level?

Extremely odd to have such a highly rated recruit not able to contribute at all. Wonder what he does in the off-season, does he stay or transfer? I’m guessing he won’t be able to get drafted at this point.

Just not ready apparently. Don’t know what he’ll do, that’ll be up to him.

The bolded.

Early game entry, mid-game entry, late game entry doesn't seem to matter; he's looked like he's thinking too much and needs to be told where to go. He also has three good veterans in front of him. I didn't see the end of the game last night but I guess he got in; I thought in his limited time Saturday he looked more comfortable.

He doesn't even take his warm up top off while on the bench which I think means there's some sort of plan for him.

My hot take prediction is things start to click and he finds his way on the floor by mid-February.

Let's see if Fran can develop him or if he has to get off campus like Garza and the Murray's.
I honestly haven't watched a second of Iowa MBB since our game vs them. What is Freeman's game exactly? Is he just kind of a junkyard dog, garbage collector type? Or does he actually have some nuance to his game?

Honestly he probably should have gone to Iowa. I think he'd be doing a lot better in the Big 10.

Hot take: Patrick has never been a P6 caliber player. I know, he has averaged right at double figures ppg for most of his career, but just casually observing he has never passed the eye test to me. He just gets a lot of opportunity.

How much of the B1G have you watched and what does that have to do with a guy not being ready to play? P6 is still P6.

He looked lost vs. bad competition all non-con.

I just think he would be a top 7 or 8 player in Iowa's roster and would be getting more opportunity. He is better than Harding or Dambele, two Iowa freshman that get regular rotation minutes. And the speed of the game in the Big 10 is not what it is in the current state of the Big 12. Maybe he wouldn't be doing a whole lot better, but he would definitely be getting some more run.

I think the health issues have taken his ability to add mass and that makes it really hard to be effective when you also aren't a good ballhandler on the perimeter. Just not a very high ceiling player physically and then you add in the mental health issues and you have a kid that life just wasn't fair to.

He was skinny as a freshman and as a RS freshman. But how much bigger would you want him to be at his position? It's not like he plays the 5 or anything. He should be a 4, plays like he thinks he should be a 3, and doesn't really have the skills to do either.

If he was playing for Iowa he would definitely be getting more run because defense is optional.

Yeah, I think his inability to add strength definitely has impacted him. But props to the kid for being able to go through what he has gone to and still became a Division one basketball player and good for him too in taking care of his mental health. I have a lot of respect for the kid.

Freeman is very fluid and athletic for his size. Probably needs to add a few pounds in the off-season, nothing crazy. He is more of a finisher at this point and gets a lot of alley oop and outback type baskets. A lot of dunks and not many back to your basket type post moves.

I should clarify that I have nothing against Patrick. He just shouldn't be playing much and other coaches would not be playing him. They generally play better without him playing extended minutes.
