I'm sure that's just what Kenpom has. I don't think they even bother to handicap games anymore, they just go by Kenpom. We are 4.5-point underdogs but are 6-0 all-time vs. BYU. With another road contest @ #25 TCU Saturday, a W in Provo would be really sweet!
Getting tired of watching our games on espn+. Figured it'd change once conference started. Guess not.I know they can't guess how good teams are going to be but it's a darn shame a top 25 matchup is on espn+
FWIW, some might assume this BYU basketball team to be "on brand" with regard to behavior, sportsmanship, decorum, etc...Hopefully we can crush the Stormin' Mormons. The crowd will be jacked up on Mountain Dew and will be loud so it will be a tough one.
Wonder if TJ will shift from the short corner/high wing double teams. It does help force turnovers but bad 3pt shooting teams were knocking down their 3s. Don't know if you want to roll the dice with that against this team.535 of BYU’s shot attempts have been threes and they hit on 37% (by comparison ISU has only attempted 297 threes). BYU has three guards that have attempted at least 83 threes, two with at least 100 attempts (by comparison ISU has only Momcilovic with 80 attempts).
ISU induces more three point attempts than most teams in the country - 356th out of 362 teams in percentage of field goal attempts given up as threes at a 46%+ rate per Barttorvik.
In short: we have played to force teams into choosing threes as their poison, but it could be a tough proposition against a team that lives (and typically thrives) by them on their home court. Will be interesting to see what TJ and staff dial up.
Our defense is great, so let's hope we can prevent them from getting too many open looks. On KenPom we have the number two defense in the nation behind Houston. BYU's defense is number seven, so scoring 65 will likely win the game.FWIW, some might assume this BYU basketball team to be "on brand" with regard to behavior, sportsmanship, decorum, etc...
Not So Fast My Friends!
BYU and head coach Mark Pope have quickly gained somewhat of a reputation in Big 12 circles for being hot heads and having a bit of an edge, to put it nicely. Although they are 100% a jump shooting team... their behavior on the court is not unlike that other team out east.
Justified or not, that's just what some people are saying. I'm fairly certain our physical brand of Otzelball will not be received warmly.
ESPN+ blows. I have to stream it from the iPad and it always stops and cuts out followed by a commercial break that lasts far too long and doesn't go back to the game in time. Wish we could get back on the cable channels.Getting tired of watching our games on espn+. Figured it'd change once conference started. Guess not.
