Washington hires Jedd Fisch

I thought for a minute I had actually found a thread on Washington 247 that included Campbell. It talked about how he was top choice and they really wanted Campbell but didn't think they could get him. Then I saw it was an old thread from 2021 that someone had bumped. Even in the recent posts in that thread they didn't talk about Campbell. Lol! It's amazing how much has changed in 3 years.

I say this respectfully because I like CMC but according to this board he has been “linked” to every single NFL and college opening in history, I heard the packers wanted him and he said no so they got Vince Lombardi
I believe it’s more like 3 teams
And your in-state Lions were one of them.

According to CBS Sports, Matt Campbell turned down an 8-year, $68.5 million contract to join the Lions this winter, before the team hired Dan Campbell as coach.

I think the Lions ended up just fine.

And so did the Cyclones.

Nope, well below that.

Never heard of him. Can you cite an example of him being accurate with this kind of thing? I don't really care if CMC goes fwiw; hyperbolic twitter takes for clicks are just kind of boring at this point.
Sure thing. If you don’t want to read it he’s won award for best beat writer in 2011 and 2017. Also won a Pulitzer in 2006.

I say this respectfully, but I find it weird that a Michigan State and Michigan fan always finds himself offering his opinions on coaching threads on an Iowa State board ;)
Hey I wanted CMC for both my teams so I get the love!

Thamel is the best/most plugged in CFB reporter in the country, the Schefter of CFB. I'm a CFB junkie but if you've never heard of him you don't really pay attention (which isn't a bad thing).

I pay attention to CFB.

Sports journalism for the most part is just a lot of noise so I don't pay much attention there for sure.

If he is at Washington, he isn’t losing to Ohio or Memphis. This is what you don’t get. The talent level and the resources make the margin for error different than it is here. It comes with its own challenges, but coaching at Washington isn’t the same as coaching at Iowa State. I do not see Washington as a good fit for Matt, but to bash him for what he has done at Iowa State is dumb. For much of my life our football team was one of the worst in P5 and one of the worst jobs in P5. HE changed that. I don’t know if he is a take at an elite program right now, but I know lots of P5 programs would jump at the opportunity to get him.
This is probably true, but at UW you are expected to beat Oregon 75% of the time and USC 50% of the time. You better not lose to Washington State ever. If you can't do that you're gone. Great place and potential but crazy high expectations.

This is totally false. UW is 5-15 against Oregon going back 20 years. They also don’t even play USC every year so that’s never been a priority especially with USC being a non factor for 20 years. The expectations really aren’t that high compared to most top 25 programs.

The Washington state thing is accurate especially now that they are G5 though

Washington also was getting rid of coaches right and left. I know what the expectations are there. Especially after Pederson and DeBoer got the program rolling. They have always had expectations there higher than what were probably realistic. It wasn't a big secret that is what was getting to Chris Pederson.

It's an underrated rivalry and the hate is real but you're totally wrong on them expecting to beat UO 75% of the time. Deboer going 3-0 the last two years makes it look "better" but Oregon has been running them the last 20-25 years including 12 straight. Hell even Peterson went 2-4 against UO.

UW fans hate Oregon's rise. They still think they should win that game 75% of the time.

Gonna have to agree to disagree. Yeah they expect winning seasons but their expectations are not that high. It’s not like they expect to be racking up big ten titles or national championships. Being ranked in the top 25 regularly and getting into the playoffs every couple years is the expectation which isn’t that high for a program like theirs

They expect to be a top 10 program and will 10 games a year. You aren't keeping your job there going 8-5, 9-4
