Big game tonight.

For us, prove it time versus best team we have faced in conference. Mission, defend home court and beat a ranked team to do it.

For WVU, also prove it time since they retained their #24 spot in spite of get thumped by 20 at home by Texas. Mission, get a big road win.

Clash of styles. Also, our size advantage (rebounds and paint scoring) versus their guard speed and pressure (steals and turnovers).

What WVU team site has to say about the game:

"West Virginia won the last meeting between the two programs, 73-60, in an upset win as the Mountaineers knocked off a No. 21 ranked Iowa State team in Morgantown. The Cyclones have won five of the last six meetings."
"Iowa State enters the game winners of their last six contests, including a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play. Last time out, the Cyclones went on the road and beat BYU 80-75 on Saturday. Four Cyclones finished in double figures, led by Addy Brown with 24 points."
"West Virginia's is averaging 15.4 steals per contest and a plus 9.6 turnover margin this season which are the best marks in the nation. Additionally, WVU forces 25.1 turnovers per game, the third most in the country."

Big one for this team. So glad we’re back at Hilton. I fully expect some silly turnovers, but if we can get the ball inside quite a bit I like our chances.

This is the grittiest team we’ve had in a while here I think.

I'm really looking forward to this game. With freshman Milan M hitting the game-winner last night against ranked Houston, the freshman women need to follow suit and work up Hilton Magic for WVU!

I got a foot of snow yesterday with a forecast of 6 more inches on Friday, so I need something positive in my immediate future. Thanks in advance Cyclones WBB!!! Go State!

How much of the WV pressure will come from full court presses? I hope we have are ready with plays that lead to easy scoring opportunities.

Stuck at home feeling under the weather so here's my bored guy hot take:

Texas beat them bad even with turning it over 24 times because they killed them in the paint. They only attempted 7 threes. Longhorns gave WVU nothing but threes with their defense and they shoot 4-31. Texas romp. I did watch this one.

Kansas shoot better versus Kansas and romped on them hitting three and turning Kansas over. Kansas only has Jackson as a big and she's a rim protector/defender, not a big scoring threat. Skimmed though some of this game on replay.

WVU @ Kansas:
KU 21 turnovers
KU 5-13 from three
WVU 10 steals
WVU 9-18 from three
WVU points off turnovers 21

Texas @ WVU
Texas 24 Turnovers
Texas 3 made threes on only 7 attempts. Focused on using their size.
Texas points in the paint 36
WVU 13 steals
WVU having to settle for threes = 4-31 . Woof!
WVU points off turnovers 16

WVU will get their steals and force turnovers. It's their jam. They had more steals and forced more turnovers vs Texas than KU but got smoked. What happens the other possessions and how well we defend will probably determine whether we win or lose. Texas did play up their size advantage but it was the Longhorn defense that totally stymied WVU and led to that lopsided margin (IMHO).

So what going to happen tonight? I have no idea.

Hopefully they have been working on some press-beating strategies in practice.
When I played in prehistoric times, the most effective way to beat the press was with short quick passes and minimal dribbling. We have athletes, basketball IQ and good size - move the ball quickly and get easy layups.

If we rely on AJ and Emily to dribble thru the traps, it won’t end well. I expect Addy Brown will be the focal point of our press break - long with excellent court vision.

I feel very confident tonight - Cyclones by ten in a comfortable victory.

Hopefully they have been working on some press-beating strategies in practice. Going to need to be careful with some of our passing too.

Hope the men didn't use up all the Magic last night. I'll be cheering from Sec. 111 as my little piece of the Magic.
section 131 says hi!

Decent start score-wise considering our poor rebounding and how much the officials are "letting them play".
