*** Official #2 Houston vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

They’ll still be upper echelon in our league. West Virginia’s Josh Eilart and Oklahoma State’s Mike Bontyon will struggle and be bottom feeders this year. This is make-or-break for Boynton, and surprised Pickens has given him this long of a lease on the program to be honest.
Pickens has been dead for 4 years. That is a long leash or lease?

Tre with that incredible 1:1 move from the right wing, clever spin to get into position to basically use his strength to back his man right into the paint - draws the defender ends with a great soft dish off to BRE for the bucket - that might be the best play he’s made as a Cyclone! A really high level play! THAT is the Tre King I’ve been expecting to see.
That was a huge play in the game. We were really struggling to get off good shots at that point and just a great look from Tre to BRE.

Houston plays their butt off on defense but so physical and ISU did a great job of forcing the contact and being aggressive and making the refs call the fouls.
They have some good shooters at guard but I don’t if that is enough offense for them to win the league
Also, have no idea how Dunn didn’t get a flagrant 2

No idea how Sampson has the gall to chalk this result up to officiating. That was one of the dirtiest/roughest teams I've ever seen us play. Maybe Cryer just had an off night and that made them look worse than they usually are but I wasn't impressed, without #21 hitting a bunch of long contested bailout threes that wouldn't have been a close game last night. I was more impressed with OU last weekend. This ain't the AAC.

If one of our players pulled an airborne player to the ground by the throat/mouth while playing at Houston or at Adidas Fieldhouse, pretty sure I know what the result would be. F*** that guy, f*** Houston, and f*** Kelvin Sampson, the lot of them.

Did Sampson really blame the refs? Wow! His team is one of the most physical teams I have seen. It’s like Huggins old WVU teams. Push and grab until it’s called. And one of their guys should have gotten a flagrant 2

What responses are due for someone who is picking apart the team on a night where they beat the #2 team in the country?

With a team that really hadn't beaten anyone yet.

Now we just hope they hold on for Saturday but last night's game was a monster deal for this team and historically at Iowa State.

Throw Bill Self in there. Be nice to do whatever you wanted with immunity.

I put Self in a different category though. Yes, his recruiting tactics are sketchy at best. But ultimately he’s been very complimentary of other teams in the league and he doesn’t come off as an ******* on the court. I’ll take that over Sampson any day if I were other players or coaches in the league.

Got to be honest, that game raised my heart rate incredibly. But that was one of the most enjoyable games in recent memory. The Kansas State game in Manhattan last year when GK hit that three comes close.

Obviously Mom’s fadeway beauty was glorious. But collectively was a great team win. Hason Ward. INCREDIBLE play on both sides. Tre King made some key buckets. That 3 pointer he hit came at a time where momentum was slipping. He also came down with colossal rebounds.

Overall, you have to give the game ball to Tre King. Was not fazed under pressure. We are lucky to have his maturity and toughness out there.

GREAT WIN!

I actually kept pretty calm during the last few moments which is unusual even if I initially expected a loss.

Progress.

Cryer did have an off night but a lot of that credit goes to our defense on him. I disagree that OU looked better. Again, let’s see OU away from home against a true road team. Remember for how awful we played in Norman we still had a lead with under five to play. They are a good team for sure, but I don’t judge a team until I see them in a true road environment. Houston defensively was absolutely nasty, and their offense will be fine. Credit our defense to make them that uncomfortable.

Then hit 4, nothing but net.
I have feeling Tamin will shoot 80% over the rest of the season.
When Big Rob had hit 4-4 and Tamin 3-7 (43%), I was worried that we were entering a different dimension.

Tamin was money down the stretch but I was worried we were leaving too many points on the table where we had a small margin of error.

Can we PLEASE hit more than 3 3's in a conference game??!!

OU imo is a tougher match up for ISU especially on the perimeter. They seemed to have more length.

ISU also wasn't very sharp either but OU played like they had something to prove too.
