*** Official #2 Houston vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Going to qualify my prediction here:

We’ve got a great chance to win this game and we can win this game, but there is no world where we do it easily or comfortably. I’m going Houston 70 - ISU 65. Could easily be flipped, but I still think we have some things to figure out. We’ll come out of this tough stretch better. This is our “challenging pre-con” if you will.
Agreed with the last sentence completely - one of my biggest concerns is that this team hasn't figured out how to grind out wins at the end of the game yet. Of course, the fact that Lipsey has fouled out in 2 of our 3 losses doesn't help. But learning how to win close games is a real thing, and I think we're not there yet.

Yeah if we had problems with OU, VCU, A&M, and VT's defense, this is going to be a nightmare.
So I will be happy if we keep it within 5

I can't explain how nuts this part is:

To be top 5 in all 5 of those categories is both insane and insanely lucky (3P% and especially FT% are not really a defensive skill)

But holding opponents to 40% shooting on 2-pt shots is bananas - and to do it while leading the nation in blocks and steals is triple bananas
We have to get better at FT defense!

My hope is that Houston is used to being the harasser but not the harassed and our defense makes them uncomfortable. A good shooting night from deep would be a blessing for us.

Drinking the Kool-aid and predicting 75-68 good guys.

Tickets are being sold for 2 dollars now. Looks like a lot of people are selling/giving away tickets and are getting desperate,
If someone is in the area and can make it, please take advantage of this. Not sure I have ever seen hundreds of tickets for free or $2 against the #2 team in the country.

Imo ISU needs a legit 3rd scoring option for late game situations. On the other hand I didn't think they looked all that good Saturday and they still climbed into the lead with a chance late.

It's interesting...they seem to have more athleticism this season but do they have the dudes to go out and grind out games? Hopefully that's a short lived 'yet' and things come to fruition.

Yikes! It looks like they've won 12 true road games in a row. They won at Oregon, Virginia, Cincinnati and Memphis last year. That's impressive.

Yeah I was all cocky thinking "well they haven't had to play road games like this before".

Then I looked at the past few years and realized they did schedule some legit road games and kicked @$$ doing it.

There was a blizzard football game against Colorado where they just opened up Cyclone Stadium.

I took Houston and the points. Hammered it, as a matter of fact.

I believe Vegas thinks Hilton is what it used to be, and is giving points it shouldn’t. It’s just not the arena that it once was. If Houston doesn’t win by 10+, I’ll be pleasantly shocked.
How do you figure Hilton isn't the arena it once was? Because of the Prohm final season debacle?

Houston may have played in some decent road environments the past few seasons but Hilton's different. They're also due for an "L", and ISU'll be hungry and on their game after a poor showing in Norman.

I actually like us by about say 6-8 in this one. I think it'll be close all the way but we'll push the margin up to that in the final few minutes.

I'm surprised so many on here are so pessimistic about this one.

Agreed that Hilton is a special environment. A conference home game vs a top 5 opponent normally is electric. But from the sounds of it, the storm + students on break means the atmosphere tonight likely won't be what we are accustomed to for such a big opponent. Hope I'm wrong though

It's probably easier to monitor/see this now with all the social media, etc. available to exchange/sell tickets. Guessing there were plenty of snow storms in the past that people couldn't get to the game and ended up sitting on their tickets but it wasn't well-known. Weather combined with early tip just sucks, why couldn't we be playing UCF...
