No doubt these factors had a huge negative effect on many of the bowls. Unfortunately for us, it had no impact on Memphis’ game and they rolled. They evidently did think it was a game.

I don't think the players available/playing are the problem for motivation.

But if it's a bunch of backups playing against a largely intact GA team, I don't know how anyone can take the result seriously.

ISU just looked bad and it wasn't shocking regardless of how bowls go now.

They had two transfer starters not play vs. our one starter opt out. Weren’t we largely intact?

Think so or close to it.

ISU looking bad was just ISU doing ISU things separate from the other bowl weirdness.
Yes, the bowls being meaningless because of opt outs is not relevant to our game. They had two starters opt out, ISU had Tampa. It doesn’t mean the game meant some thing, but the reason bowls are crap was not really a factor in our game.

Correct. We just got outplayed and lost. That's it. Every player who is playing is trying to win. But when you have the number of opt-outs you see in some of these games THAT'S the point. FSU's players who played clearly cared and tried to win, but they had so many players out in a game against the defending national champs, so that tells you how much they gave a **** about it. Had they all played and somehow won, they would have had a claim to a national title, but they didn't care to try.

Georgia found the motivation to all play to send their senior class out with I believe 50 wins in their career at Georgia, which is pretty insane when you think about it.

In summary, bowl season is just a crap shoot, which is why people say the things they do about it.

I personally don’t understand the importance of winning or losing a mid tier bowl game. Minnesota beat Bowling Green in the Quick Lane Bowl. Is that significant? If they lost, does that mean the program is destined to be a failure next year as well?

I view non NY6 games as a way to celebrate a good season by playing one more game where players can spend a few days before the game having fun in the host city. NY6 games will be the only games that truly matter starting next season. The only reason these non NY6 games exist is because they generate money. If these games no longer become profitable, the non NY6 games will eventually fold. There have been quite a few bowl games that have ceased to exist over the years for this very reason.

For these reasons, I really don’t care about non NY6 games and the winning/losing team from those games. Just my opinion; I respect others who feel differently

Both FSU and Georgia had the same number (27) of injuries, opt outs and players declaring.

Who that was significant?

Bowers had been out for a long time.

"Smart praised his team's buy-in, which included decisions by a number of key seniors to play. Georgia did not have any official opt-outs, though several stars, including tight end Brock Bowers, missed the game due to injury."

lots of cope from williams and blum for a $4 million coach to get boat raced in memphis
Money arguments are pretty weak in today’s landscape because of how much stupid money is getting thrown around with no oversight. After saying that, $4 million meant something 10+ years ago. That’s a bottom 1/3 salary in P5 now and is completely irrelevant when it comes to how poorly we played in our bowl game.
