Liberty Bowl postgame thread

Alabama lost to Colorado 47-33 in 1969, their program never recovered.
And if Yelk’s kick was good, ISU beats Alabama in the Independence Bowl. Judging by some of these comments, it would appear that one kick changed the trajectory of both programs. Alabama soon went onto dominance while ISU fielded poor teams for the next 7 or so years. One kick changed college football.

LOL. The lengths some people go to try to justify the “importance” of low to mid tier bowl games

What was your favorite Liberty Bowl in the 1980s?

Did winning the Insight Bowl in 2009 elevate the recruiting?

Most Cyclone fans remember EVERY ISU bowl game. Can you tell me without looking if ISU beat Alabama in the Independence Bowl? How did the game end?

Did beating K-State this year elevate recruiting? Do you remember if we beat Missouri in 1998? I mean, why even play it those ******* games? Who cares?

This is a fair take in my opinion. Playing the other team on their home field is dumb. Memphis should be sent somewhere else no matter what…
LOL. When I get on a bowl committee I'm sending Memphis to the Fenway bowl in Boston to face a 10-win Boston College with a high temp of 36 and the only tourist attractions open will be some overrated BBQ joints.

You are a pleasant one.

Not today after reading so many bad takes. Joe Scates by all accounts was given a fair chance here. He had a few procedure penalties and rarely made an impact. For him to act like a punk even for a moment is classless.

Wish we could go back to those years you are referring to. Bowl games were so much more relevant then.

I can understand your opinion. I can.

You are just a little more harsh than me. I shouldn't have posted anything.

You think losing to Boise State in the Humanitarian Bowl impacted the program? What if they won? Would the program had excelled for years to come?

No one game will impact recruiting. Nobody said it would. But some here believe losing or winning a mid tier bowl game somehow has huge ramifications to the program. It doesn’t. The overall collection of the season will impact recruiting far, far more than a single conference game, a single non conference game, or a single mid tier bowl game.

I don’t think recruits are flocking to MN because they beat Bowling Green in the Quick Lane Bowl.

If ISU beats Bama is Seneca counted as in?

What a springboard that must have been!
It was Coach Bryant's last game @ Alabama. So, it was definitely a springboard for Ray Perkins who left the New York Giants to become the Alabama Head Coach from 1983-6.

:)

I can understand your take. Football is an emotional, passionate sport.

That's why we love it.

I just wanted to give the kid the benefit of the doubt.

We’re pretty much done with Memphis. I think with the new teams coming in, a road game in Arizona or Utah might be a more appropriate use of my money.

I have nothing to say about the debacle at the game that hasn’t already been said. Except, who builds a stadium next to a train track? Had to wait for a freight train to pass by to get in, and then right after the game two more trains come blasting by. Crazy.

See you all in September!

You care about this way too much. It’s not a big deal.

If we were playing an sec team we'd be more prepared which is pathetic. I guess we thought we were too good for the liberty bowl and Memphis and we got schooled.

Side note, sort of related but not really. Cancel all away games AT g5 teams. Are we really that poor we have to save a few pennies to play at Arkansas state and Tulane, which will undoubtedly be a sh*tty close games because apparently we're not up to the task. At Arkansas State? I mean what the f*** are we doing, and New Orleans in August or September won't be much nicer.... sorry tangent...
Memphis beat Arky State 37-3 at their place this season...they won't give you trouble and your fans can get plenty of tickets. Have fun!
