Liberty Bowl postgame thread

You think recruits care about the outcome of a mid to low tier bowl game?
I don't think....I know. 10 year old boys throwing in the yard know who wins these games too. The television ratings for all college football versus the other options served up are pretty amazing. People apparently care.

LMAO!… yeah… I’m sure a 17 year old will look back at a bowl game from 7 years earlier and say “man, that Iowa state team didn’t play well in that bowl game from 2023. Better not go there”

Hell, no recruit will change their mind based on this game. I challenge you to show me a recruit who flipped based on the result of a low to mid tier bowl game

I generally dislike the “we are little old Iowa State” mentality, simply because our finances, fan base, etc have come so far even in my life. We’ve been fortunate to have good leadership the past ~20 years.

I think the general point people are trying to make is that while Campbell and Pollard have elevated us by so much, we’re not a program that will be immune to bad games, bad game plans, and so on.

Yesterday sucked balls, and made me get drunk, but I’m optimistic with guys like Rocco, Sama, and company, and overall happy with how the staff did this season all things considered. Even if it got weird a couple times.

You may be right, especially as you were there? Anyway, it didn't seem that much.

IIRC, Scates left with good things to say about ISU, no grudge or anything. Most everything I've seen in this game, he was treated with respect by ISU, and he did the same to us. They are playing football, things can be said, his guy was down, etc.
Yep. Happened right in front of me. And like I said, I understand brotherhood and respect and former teammates and coaches.

It was more than that.

Especially as he was leaving he turned and yelled and pointed.

But what do I know?

I'm trying to recall the outcomes of 1980s or 90s Liberty Bowls or even watching them and I've got nothing.

With all the statements in these threads, we might as well melt down the Fiesta Bowl trophy for scrap, because these are just exhibition games.

Exactly. And no more boasting about how many bowl games ISU has made under CMC.

But did an ISU player say anything to him?

During this bowl season, with all the pregame jawing matches and personal foul penalties. Scates actions are a mole hill.

It’s not a fair comparison to use the Liberty Bowl being treated equally as a NY6 bowl

NY6 bowl games are significant. The other bowl games pale in comparison. This will be even more true starting next year with the expanded playoffs

Purdy most certainly did not progress “well” at Iowa State. He factually developed bad habits due to circumstances out of his control (horrid O-Line play).

It’s so silly (and funny) for ISU fans to get SOOO defensive about Brock’s time at ISU; there are very real and valid reasons why his draft stock continued to plummet the MORE college football he played. There are very real and logical reasons why basically no scouts or NFL minds/coaches/analysts felt he was worth an early or mid round pick.

And all our fans screaming “See! See! All you scouts got it so wrong!” - Lol, no, they didn’t. You know what happened immediately AFTER wrapping up his college career? Brock worked his ass off with a private throwing coach. He then worked his ass off in 9’ers camp, with extreme and purposeful focus on vastly improving his throwing mechanics and footwork, and learning how to read a defense from the pocket. Traits he did not make significant advances on at Iowa State. Brock literally looks like and plays like a completely different player for the 9’ers. The 9’ers staff even admits this - they had NO idea they were getting THIS polished of a player because he didn’t demonstrate early round traits on tape. Brock deserves that credit for growing up so quickly in that initial offseason. He earned it, the hard way. The progress he made in those 6 - 12 months after ISU is wildly impressive. Baffles my mind how ISU fans can just ignorantly try to take that away from him and try shift credit to our staff; the staff didn’t turn Brock Purdy into an MVP candidate.

So you think Brock is the only player to work his ass off after finishing up college to get ready for the draft?
