Liberty Bowl postgame thread

There is no question about it, neither side of the ball was ready to play. Problem is it goes from a meaningless game to something that can really set the program back.

Defense has a lot of issues, we don’t have the correct personnel or speed we need to run this defense right now.

O line, man I don’t know anymore. I really thought we took a step forward, but that was pathetic.

I get it, might be hard to get up to play Memphis. But damn it, have some pride in your work. People pay a lot of money for this and today just wasn’t acceptable from anyone.

Our offensive line is a work in progress. Hopefully we can get a guy or two via portal. Hopefully the D progression for next season is what we expect.

I still think this was an outstanding coaching job this season. We all know the gambling story etc, coaches did a great job turning this sucker around.

2024 early prediction...8-4.

Seems pretty weak to me, not about getting beat, or about having 0 yds rushing, but about never accepting a bowl bid against a G5 team again.

We win this game, I can see this argument. A G5 team was ready, Memphis, and they were the better team tonight. Never playing them or anyone like them again sounds kind of whiney.

It's because it's a home game for them. That really shouldn't happen, but it keeps happening to ISU for some reason.

It is a game that has all upside for the g5 team, and almost entirely downside for the p5 team, and on top of that the g5 gets to be at home.

What is the point of bowl games if this is what we get?

To me there were two things that stuck out. Lack of speed on defense and run blocking. Tampa opted out and Verdon was injured but I doubt either would have made much of a difference today. I don't understand how our O line who obviously are big strong guys can't get any push. I think Sama has great abilities but at some point he has to quit dancing around a put his head down and just get a couple yards. But with that said we are a very young team. I am really disappointed but I do not think that Campbell has suddenly forgotten how to coach. He's given us the best football we've seen since the 70's.

Knew team would make it a game. Becht’s future looks great.
I'm sorry, it wasn't a game at all. Brecht is decent, might be good. Problem is our o line is not, and our coaching hates any offensive momentum.

I say go all out for basketball. Try to be Kansas, not Alabama. We can't afford to be consistently decent in football anymore. If we can squeeze out a bowl game and an 8 win season every couple of years I'd be ok with that. If we get the the Dance every year, and contend in the Big 12 every year, we won't get left out of anything. College basketball makes too much money.

Oh, and if they eventually go to a 32 team pro league or whatever, we were never gonna be invited to that anyway.
Kansas is building a new football stadium.

Football funds so much of the AD, that basketball just can't do, so you still need to give it a significant amount of importance.

8-4 isn’t winning the Big12 and winning the Big12 is what we’re selling right now.

None of that is hyperbole.

Things this game validated:

1) There's a HUGE vulnerability in our running game where opponents can scheme against it & blow it out of the water. Otherwise, how can we look decent/good versus solid Big 12 teams then get curb stomped by G5 Teams? Memphis ain't Texas.

2) We need obvious, vast talent upgrades in two key areas next season: OL & LBs. Thinking young talent is there in the other areas that will continue to improve. Jury is out most heavily (imo) in these two.

agreed, left him off there.
I just can't believe we set receiving and QB records and lost by 10 to Memphis.
not sure why I am so pissed about it ,but come on.
Memphis was a bad defensive team and when you fall behind by 19 and can't run the ball, passing yards are going to happen.

I went to Dallas when we played on the championship game because I honestly wasn’t sure If I would ever get another opportunity and I’m hoping that I have decades of life left… todays game didn’t do me any favor in helping me put that feeling away even though technically our conference is becoming easier.

LOL. Get back to? I can't remember us ever "winning in the margins". One of Campbell's talking points that has never actually materialized.
Does anyone believe this guy is still a cyclone fan. He never has a positive thing to say. Not that this game had a lot but this guy is for sure a hawk troll.
