49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

Defense has been questionable all year tbh
I'm not sure if the numbers bear that out. They entered tonight as the 2nd best scoring defense in the league. Number 1 in turnovers. Top 5 in QB rating against. Top half of the league in yards allowed per play, sacks, and passing yards allowed per game.

Some of it may be skewed because they're usually playing with a lead, forcing offenses to take chances, but the stats indicate that they're at least an above average defense, especially compared with other NFC contenders like Philly and Detroit, who have defenses that rank much lower, statistically.

Youre not wrong but it has felt a bit jekyll and hyde. When they're good theyre good, but when they're off, woof

the internet was waiting for a game like this and now this is all you will hear.

im not comparing purdy to josh allen or Mahomes but if they have a 4 INT game it's just, "oh, bad games happens!"

Purdy has one and he should be playing in the arena football league.

the horror!! he dropped from 1st to... 1st in QBR.

That game likely sunk Purdy’s MVP chances but the reality is he threw a lot of good balls for a lot of yards. It wasn’t a 12 for 28 for 98 yards type of outing. He’s had some luck with several passes not being picked the last 2 seasons and last night it seemed like karma finally caught up with him.

That said, his pass protection was terrible, from the first play of the game. I’m more concerned with that than I am with Purdy. If the line is a sieve like that in the playoffs the 49ers will get beat.

Good example of why an offensive line is critical. Purdy didn’t have many clean pockets and constantly had hands in his face. Purdy just didn’t look comfortable and rushed his reads. Credit the ravens defense, which is really, really good. Injuries to SF OL obviously played a factor as well. Everyone will have bad games, especially during a 17 game season.

Best way to recover from a game like this is to just go out and dominate the next game

This is why the 49ers may not ever win a Superbowl. They punish teams when they can run their offense, but it's not good if they are forced to be one dimensional. It's not all on Purdy either... the line can't block for him and receivers are no longer getting open without the McCaffrey/Deebo run threats. Shany needs to watch some tape on how to move the ball in obvious pass situations and help his team out.

This is something that I noted last year. It's like they're all in on Plan A, but there is no backup plan at all.

I honestly think it’s because of the hot takes. A lot of people with a lot of hot takes that want him to fail.
Nobody’s ever seen anyone do what he’s doing. People overreact to things they haven’t seen before. Or things they can’t put into a pre established box. Don’t put Brock in a box.
