***2024 Minnesota Vikings***

Not saying he would have this year but damn he was playing the best ball of his career before getting hurt. Between that and watching Quarterbacks, was rooting so hard for him. Now...at his age and that contract (or I should say figuring out the next contract for him)...man not sure what they do.

Cousins has a serious injury. Nothing guarantees that he will be as effective in the future. Not sure how many years he has left anyway. Cousins might not get much interest. Sign a cheap guaranteed contract with incentives. Dobbs Is not the answer.

Doubt if Kirk agrees that the injury should result in him signing anything cheap. He’ll hold the Vikes hostage with their current QBs struggling.

Then the Vikings move on. Kirk can move his family and try his luck with a new system and team. Good luck. Kirk is old and injured. Gonna be 36. I do not foresee many teams wanting to break the bank to sign a QB like that. This injury may be just the beginning. Some say Ewers might be a mid round pick. He has some skills.

Kirk's still probably going to command $30+ million, even coming off an injury. As evident from the QB play around the league, he would be an upgrade for many teams. Even if Minnesota drafts their QB of the future, they can still afford another year or two of Cousins, even at that price tag. He knows the system and there aren't great alternatives.

Not to mention, a cap number of $30 million isn't what it used to be. $30 million would be the 12th highest cap number for a QB next year, as the numbers sit currently.

I think Ewers is going back to Texas

Ewers does NOTHING for me at this point. He does not impress me for someone that highly touted. Perhaps he will improve with age, As of now, I do not see him lighting up the NFL.

Besides the 49ers, the NFC doesn't seem that strong to me. I think Kirk and this team as is could be a contender for a Superbowl.

Kirk Cousins has One Playoff win in his career. The Minneapolis Miracle. He is 1-4 in his career in playoffs. Super Bowl is not happening. Invest in younger talent. Cousins is a bandaid. Not a solution.

Kirk Cousins did not participate in the Minneapolis Miracle. That was Case Keenum.

He did beat the Saints, but that was a different game.

And look at what Kirk has actually done in his playoff starts, and what his defenses have done for him. His career playoff numbers are basically the exact same as Super Clutch Franchise Future of the NFL Joe Burrow. The entire difference is Kirk's defenses are giving up almost 30 ppg and Burrow's like 18. While Kirk's defense is making Daniel Jones look like Joe Montana, Burrow's defense is returning fumbles 99 yards for a TD, saving Burrow from getting outdueled by Tyler Huntley.

I'd be curious to see what any QB in the NFL's record is when they have to score 30 to win against playoff-level defenses. I'm guessing no one has a great record in that scenario.

If Kirk takes $30M cap hit to come back, you sign him. Pay outside the top 10 in QBs for a top 10 QB. There are a lot of these QBs people have considered to be elite and better than Kirk that really aren't. Now that those QBs have the realities of a lesser roster due to them being done with their rookie contract it's becoming clear.

I want Kirk back. I think he gives the team the best chance to win. But I also think that they need to draft a QB and start preparing for the future.

I honestly think it comes down to JJ at this point. What does he want? After seeing the crap show that will be Vikings QB play without Kirk, will he want to re-sign without Kirk being a Viking? If the answer is no, you re-sign Kirk. Not even a question. You don't lose the best receiver in the NFL (and one that looks to be historically great) because of a few million dollars more per year for a QB. If JJ wants Kirk, he stays.
