Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

You try opening up against the 6th place team in the A10. They could even dribble between their legs!
I was actually thinking about this the other day. Fortunately I played in the era where girls could only dribble twice. My handle was bad. Got hip checked once on a drive to the bucket, accidentally dribbled between my legs, somehow got the layup in, and the crowd of maybe two dozen people went nuts. We were maybe only down by 25 or so at the time.

If this is the attendance for the opening conference game on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in December, can you imagine what it's gonna look like in February?

Iowa is the epitome of fair weather fans.

Still social distancing. I would expect nothing less from the premiere medical school west of the Mississippi and east of Marshalltown.

Iowa is in bad shape. And if you look at next year it looks bad as well. Fran is not a good recruiter and he still prefers lowly ranked HS kids over making the team better in the portal.

Literally three players have carried the program for the last 5 years. One left Iowa City to develop and the other two were Hawkeye legacies that literally nobody else wanted. He got stupid lucky with those three. Fran's misses outweigh his hits by a ton but he has had three all Americans that have helped cover it up.

On a side note, I noticed ISU shot 48 free throws in their game yesterday. That is crazy. I wonder what the record is and that had to be close to that.

Yeah, if he doesn't want to leave, I'm not sure that Iowa is going to be able to let him go. Then again, if attendence craters, it might put some urgency on things.

Their WBB team is going to kill MBB attendance for this year and next year. There is only so much time and if you’re making the trip to IC it’s going to be for Clark and the women.

Same exact description happened once to Jordan Bohannon.

Except it was a Saturday afternoon in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Completely agree but it does kind of validate this schedule as much as I don’t like it.

No it really doesn't. Iowa State is getting a lot of mileage out of really efficient offense against really bad teams. Kenpom has our adjusted SOS at 277. That's pretty bad. The NET formula LOVES offensive efficiency.

That’s the point. There is no freaking way this team is #8 in the country, but they are playing the NET metrics game and they are currently ranked there… thus justifying the schedule.

All in a pretty down era for the conference overall.

Offensive efficiency (also 30th in tempo after being in the low 200's last year [per CW & Blum]). I don't see this being an issue. Particularly with our turnovers forced and having guards that get down hill for once. I'd be shocked if there was a significant enough drop-off in Big 12 play.

I really hope Devries doesn’t go to Iowa. Not cause I’m overly worried about him lighting the world on fire there, but he’s from my hometown and have a lot of family friends. It’s been fun having Drake as kind of a second team to root for, couldn’t do it for the Hawks

Just wait until Iowa has another year like this year under Fran and CC is gone and see if they even open the doors anymore
