Which players will most likely not be on the 2024 cyclones roster. What I have gathered so far:

Run out of eligibility:
Gerry Vaughn (starter) - WLB
Chase Contreraz (starter) - K
Ben Nikkel - S
Dimitri Stanley - WR

Draft:
TJ Tampa (starter) - CB

Transfer:
Eli Sanders (starter) - RB
Cartevious Norton - RB
Quaron Adams - WR
Terrell Crosby Jr. - CB
Darrell Simmons Jr - OL

Guys that can use their covid year if they want:
Easton Dean (starter) - TE
Jarrod Hufford (starter) - OL
Grant Treiber - OL
Darion Porter - CB

This is based on the latest depth chart ISU put for the Baylor game so things may have changed. Let me know if I'm missing anyone or if any of these covid year guys have stated they are/aren't coming back.

Hope we have a lot on our OL that use that extra year!

Treiber really isn't a starter. He started a couple of times I guess but Black by and large was the starter for the majority of the last part of the season. He'd be a really good depth piece to have though for sure.

Honestly, I know Porter is coming back and that's big especially with Crosby leaving - but at the same time, if I had a shopping list of who I wanted back it'd be hufford. A couple years ago I don't know if I would have said that but having him and Black at guards with another year with Clanton - that could be pretty darn sick

I like Porter and met his Mom and Dad. Great people. I think he's good but if I were shopping the portal I would still like to get another stud CB.

I’d focus on LB defense wise. That is our weakest position. We don’t really have any OLB that can be run stoppers. We have faster ones who can run down backs when they screw up but instead of stuffing the run we are giving up 7-8 yard runs. Freyler had to come up in run support so much that it hurt us there.

Agreed but I honestly think my priority would be an edge rusher. Because some of the issues on 3rd down can be attributed to not being able to generate pressure. Maybe 1-2 of the young kids steps up (Same) but while it won't happen I actually think personal wise we are currently better suited as a 4 down front.

I think if you put TO at the 3 tech, Dom at the 1/0 along with Singleton etc - and possibly but Bacon as a stand up or hand in the ground edge player - that helps us. Now it limits us safety wise in terms of Beau, Verdon and Cooper all on the field - but in terms of up front - I feel like that helps our personal there and helps in terms of a pass rush.

That said, the dime stack is amazing but I do think that would be my first priority.

LB 2nd
Depth 3rd

I think our current LBs could be edge rushers, our at least come on blitz packages. I think that is their best attribute is putting pressure on but we don’t use them that way. Backers that seem to have problems reading plays tend to do best when you give them only one thing to do, which is where most of our LBers are.

Bacon for sure could.

IDK about the Jack or Will.

I think Orange and TO inside and Lovett / Bacon + others off the edge could be a pretty sick 4 man front. But again - not gonna happen so that's where I just think we have a need for an true "end" type player.

Losing MJ was huge. We all knew losing McDonald was going to suck. But i think we underestimated, or some did anyways, how much losing MJ was going to hurt

I hadn't heard that Quaron Adams was leaving... that's a bummer. Don't blame him though, he never saw the field.

Just disappointing we couldn't find a role for him since he was the fastest player on the team. Would have loved to see him get some WR screens or jet sweeps, etc.

I've never understood this. Goes back to Jarvis West, Nawangu, Adams. Fastest guys on the team and we don't use them enough.

It's not like our roster was loaded with WR talent either... outside of Higgins and Noel. What would it hurt to give the kid a few opportunities and see what he could do?

But I'm sure they had their reasons.

I think the type of edge rusher you're wanting is a 7 figure proposition.

I think Jarvis West was overused if anything. He was just Ok and not a real difference maker. I still have nightmares about us repeatedly throwing incomplete fade routes to him in the corner of the end zone.

Definitely agree with Kene. He was a weapon.

Oh, the elite ones, for sure. I just want a guy who can rush the QB consistently. As good as TO is - that's not his best attribute.

I think if we had a MJ Anderson type player along with him and Singleton/Orange, I think we win 8 games this year. Maybe 9. Even if everything else was the same

At one point, I was looking back through Chandler’s track meet results, and realized that after his freshman season Quaron missed huge parts of the track season every year.

No one ever commented on the kid who had run a 10.49 100m as a freshman being injured, so my guess is that he had some off the field issues.

ISU honored the scholarship, but I never really heard anything about him impressing in practice. And as to what those “off the field issues” might have been…I’m not even going to start to go there. Except to say that I’m pretty sure they weren’t the same as what Isheem Young went through.

Ill update. Not really sure if I should call Eli a starter or not. He did all season up until the last game of the season. Aba probably would have challenged him next year but not sure.

Kene was used greatly in the return game, but Breece Hall took much of his opportunity in the run game, along with fumbles not helping his cause.
