Bill Simmons on his podcast this morning was gushing about Tyrese after his win over the Milwaukee Bucks, and while trying to find someone to compare him to brought up how his mental processing reminds him of Brock Purdy. It's amazing the ascent these two cyclones have gone on in the past two years.

For those that want to listen it's the Bill Simmons Podcast and it happens at roughly the 30 minute mark.

His podcast is great. A must listen twice a week.

I haven’t listened to this one yet, but the hilarious part is, I’m positive he had no idea they both went to ISU and are friends (unless his guest told him). He doesn’t really like college sports.

I still remember seeing Halliburton’s HS senior film and thinking holy crap this guy is special and how is it he has flown under the radar?

The thing that popped off the page to me from his high school games was his efficiency. Scoring 20+ points routinely while shooting 8-11 or something like that.

He should had been 5 star and #1 recruit in his class
He won Wisconsin Player of the Year I think. I feel like recruiting services maybe downgraded him because his shot looks funky.

He’s shooting 44% from 3 right now. Maybe he just discovered a better form to shoot and is revolutionizing the game.

Funny that pro scouts did the same thing which is why he slid down to 12 in the draft.

I always thought that his shot looks like Steph Curry.

Shooting form was definitely a knock on him. That perceived form issue continued to be a concern during the draft process, even though all he other attributes had vaulted him up mock draft boards. Remember…he still got drafted a fair number of spots below where people were projecting. In high school, while he was 6’3” or so, he also weighed about 85 pounds, and wasn’t really an “alpha” type player. He scored a fair amount, but on basically the bare minimum of attempts. I wonder if people questioned his killer instinct, because he “deferred” way back in HS.

Oh well. Dude doesn’t care about that stuff. Never has. And he’s killing it.

Haliberton was so skinny in high school. That is probably why he never was a 4 or 5 star type recruit.
Dude was a 2 star recruit, wasn’t he? Rating services had him in the mid-300 range, if I remember right.

EDIT: According to 247’s final rating, he was a 3 star with a ranking of 177. When we offered him, he was in the 350 range.

You're lying if you didn't think "what the **** is Prohm doing" when he started Haliburton right off his freshman year.

Have to like Steve Kerr's "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to Haliburton and advice he was giving to peer coaches on what to do with him.

I guess to me that's just the thing with basketball - you're never going to teach someone to shoot like that, but if someone does shoot like that and is making the shots - why would you ever coach him out of it?

I must be lying because I was hoping he would get a lot of minutes if not start. I was just in love with his personality and the fun he had while playing. It was in every highlight reel and every practice clip.

I thought he was easily the best nba prospect since Royce (Royce was an obvious nba talent other than between the ears) the first game he played and was blown away by his passing and length immediately the very first game. I thought he’d play in nba pretty early with the nearly 7 foot wingspan but I’d have never dreamt he’d consistently be a top 3 point shooter in nba.
