*** Official Iowa vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

The reason Fran played more subs than Otz? Iowa‘s subs played better than their starters. ISU ball boys showed more skill than the Iowa starters.
Well at least one of the starters shouldn't be one (Patrick) and arguably another although I am not sure if he normally starts or not (Dix).

Iowa is going to have a tough time making any kind of postseason tournament if their 2 most recent games are any indication. They have been now blown out by the 3 NCAA Tournament teams they have played so far -- us, Purdue, and Creighton. Like, games that are not even close. Iowa fans telling us that this years team is rough and not any good had a pretty good and honest take on their team in my opinion. What we saw tonight won't even qualify for NIT, although Fran is a good coach and can probably motivate his guys to steal a few Big 10 games they shouldn't win down the stretch. A big boner for them to avoid now however will be some kind of buy-game meltdown like we saw last season against Eastern Illinois. Something like that would be a real nail in the coffin for them.

Glad to see Pav getting more minutes. Tamin, Gilbert, and him are complete combo guards. All have pg skills and can put the ball in the bucket.
I was thinking last night that we probably had 4 of the top 5 guards in the game (maybe 5 of 5). Iowa just can't or doesn't seem to recruit guards that can beat you off the dribble.

That trio is going to be tough to deal with for opposing teams. I think about Tinsley Horton and Nurse. Different players but similar situation in that they were all three really effective combo guards.

And if this combo gets going it's REALLY hard to guard.
It's really a pick your poison from the defending team's standpoint. You really have to put your best on the ball defender on Lipsey or he is just going to carve you up. That leaves your second best guy to defend Gilbert and 3rd to defend Pav. And unless you have some great defending guards, we're likely to win all three matchups.

I thought we orchestrated the offense beautifully last night. When Iowa brought help to contain the guards, we dropped it inside for our bigs to carve them up. When they didn't, we'd just blow by them into the paint. By mid-game, Iowa had to abandon all thought of trying to defend the three point line, so we had rhythm threes whenever we felt like it.

Exactly the team I thought of when watching them out there. Horton is still one of my favorites. Draining that 3 standing on the prairie chicken in Lawrence is a classic.

Another hidden story from this game was Pavaletzke (SP?). He looked really comfortable out there and he shot the 3 very nicely.

His coming out party was the VCU game when he was inserted in the 1st half. I’m not going to lie, I was a little stunned with the decision—but boy was it the right one! He’s going to do well the rest of the year. I’m just concerned with how he’s going to handle the rigors and physicality of Big 12 play.

Disagree. I heard Omaha is a huge Cyclone fan. We need to be positive and a little patient.

You might be correct. If you look at him on the bench and around campus, he doesn’t appear to be down in the dumps he isn’t seeing the court.

He seems like a likable guy. I’m at 50/50 whether he’ll be here next year. You hate to speculate on things, but you got to think the same thing about Watson.

Omaha is right where he needs to be I think. Seems to love being a Cyclone. Way better off than being in a less structured environment playing pro ball.

In regards to playing time, the absence of Watson in recent games is more surprising than Omaha especially with Ward out. Thought for SURE his minutes would increase.

I was surprised Omaha didn’t get a few minutes with the lead being what it was. But hopefully he just keeps working and starts to make an impact at some point

Are you aware of Demarion's injury situation? It's been alluded to in posts here and there.

No. Knew nothing of that. What’s he dealing with? Show me some evidence that Watson is injured other than message board stuff.

I think you’re throwing stuff against the wall to see if it sticks. I think he’s healthy.
