Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

She did have one of the best centers in the league last year which helps that assist stat. Not saying she doesn't pass the ball, but to me a good center really helps.
I agree. She still makes the great passes but the finishes are a lot lower percentage. Still averaging 7.6 per game this year so not too bad.

There's no sugar coating it, that was a bad basketball game last night. Iowa State is really young and they just aren't a good team right now. That's the second Iowa game I've watched this year and they have been very underwhelming in both games. The first game was Va Tech. Yes they won both games but they don't look like anything close to a top 5 team. Bluder needs to get her team back and cancel the Clark show. For them to come anywhere close to their goals they will need to play team basketball. Last nights performance will get you beat by a lot of teams.

Brown, Crooks, Joens, Jackson, and Bristow are all young and played A LOT. Keeping the game that tight, that long, would concern me a little bit if I was an Iowa fan.

At an event this summer, Billy Fennelly told me the ISU women's team is the youngest in the nation. This is going to be a rough year, but there are bright spots and I believe there will be some incredible moments for this team in the near future.

Was there a reason Iowa didn't do better in getting a better scorer in the portal last year?

I was amazed they couldn't find a quality transfer post. Cziano made an entire career out of being wide open on the pick and roll.

I absolutely get that. She's still averaging 7.6 so far this year. I'm guessing she'll still be top 2-3 in the country at years end. She's a great passer.
She's averaging 7.6 assists mainly because the ball is always in her hands. She will either shoot the ball or drive/dish to an open player who then shoots. The stats are misleading

I never take much from a road game against ISU. What one expects to happen rarely actually happens with in-state rivalry games. Hilton is a hostile environment (compliment to ISU) for any opposing team but especially so when it's Iowa. The main issue for Iowa was that no one other than Martin stepped up to provide scoring. Marshall, Davis and Affolter went a combined 0-9 from deep and they were all good looks. I was impressed with Crooks. Iowa just didn't have anyone who could stop her.

I'll see if I can't find the highlight. She made a 3 pointer off of a screen, then on her way back down the court she was screaming at her teammates to "come on!" Not like an encouraging let's go type of yell, but like a you all suck and aren't doing your part type of scream.
I saw that too.

Exactly. I think she'll make about the same money whether she stays in college or goes pro early, but college offers a much better opportunity to continue being the big fish in a small pond.
The problem for her next year is that her supporting cast gets thin if she stays. Martin, Davis, and Marshall all graduate and have all used their COVID years. That leaves her and the two post players with any meaningful playing time.

Their bench didn't do much last night. Kylie has regressed, McCabe plays lost, O'Grady added nothing, and Affolter is inconsistent.

I can rest easy tonight knowing that the kids out there watching learned it’s OK to chuck 87 shots in pursuit of an individual record at the expense of your team.
I don't think it was at the expense of her team since she carried them through the 3rd quarter.

Now that K State game where she wasn't hitting anything but still launched over half of her team's shots...

Iowa has a pretty good big coming in next year though in Heiden.
