Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

It would be nice if Tre could at least get back to posing a moderate threat from 3 pt. land. 33% on 56 attempts his final year at Eastern Kentucky. He is 4 for 19 in what has amounted to almost one full season in Ames now.
Tre’s 19 attempts have shown me that I don’t want him to take another one as long as he’s wearing an Iowa State jersey. He’s not a perimeter shooter. He needs to get his from around 12 feet and in.

Totally prepared for Iowa to win this.
It’s the CyHawk, which we usually choke away in most sports it seems, and it’s not a good matchup for us IMO.

:curse:
Iowa has shooters and we of course don’t as usual, outside of Milan. And we will also give them tons of wide open looks from 3 too if we play defense like we have been this year.
:explode:
Ward would have helped a LOT in this game…. and if Omaha was even half the player we thought we were getting…. would have helped a lot too.
:eggplant:
Not excited for this game at all.

I wish we would start circling the Iowa game on our schedule in all sports someday if that’s all it takes?

That’s a dumb argument IMO. If you don’t get up for every game, you have issues to begin with.
No one gets up for every game. That's how Mississippi State loses to Southern, Nova loses to Drexel, Kentucky loses to UNC Wilmington, etc, etc. Going into a game with something to prove (or at least taking your opponent seriously) matters quite a bit at the college level.

If we lose because Iowa is more up for the game...that's on us.
That won't be the reason, if we lose, and whoever says it is should die slowly.

Die a slow death?

There's been plenty of times when ISU looked like absolute garbage in this game and Iowa came out with easily one of their best games of the year. Last year was the prime example especially on the defensive side.

That said ISU is a work in progress and will have lots of room to grow regardless of how tomorrow goes.

Pretty sure ISU has the game circled as a rivalry but it's not the make or break for the season. ISU tends to look pretty weird in football for the first 4-5 games of the season, and the Iowa game is just in that stretch.

In basketball it's one December game that is big for bragging rights but after that it's on to the conference slate that is more important on the season.

Heck if ISU does win it doesn't get acknowledged; KCRG two years ago didn't mention ISU's win at all.

The 'just play like that every time out' comes from people that don't see the players as humans that physically wear out.

They don't call it March Madness because everyone plays at their best all the time.

It’s more important this year because they dropped 2 in Orlando. Your point stands though. Long season. All kinds of opportunities for good wins in conference.

Iowa: Lower ceiling but reaches that ceiling in November/December

Iowa State: Higher ceiling but will take more time to get there

Fran puts a lot of emphasis on this game, as he should. When you don't have a ton of post season success and the fans are generally apathetic, beating a big rival is something that is important.

Because of all this, Iowa will be very ready to play and we will have to play a good game to win. We cannot play a "C" game and expect to win because it's in Hilton. We'll get beat by double digits if that's the case.

Just tired of the lame excuse that ISU never gets up for Cy-Hawk games like Iowa does.

Well…. if that’s the case, then I wish we’d start getting up for them…. losing is embarrassing.

Iowa has looked like dung against the two teams they've played with a pulse.

The whole does or doesn't get up for the game is dumb. Our guys want to win and so do theirs. It's nothing more than fans making excuses for losing the game.

I don't think we don't get up for this game. We'll be up for it. Iowa just might be a more complete team in early December compared to us this year.

This game will be won or lost in the first ten minutes. Iowa's record when they don't get out of the gate fast is pretty poor. If Iowa comes out and throws flames like they did last year we won't be able to get back into it. Slow them down and take away the easy transition buckets and make Iowa settle into a half court offense. Offensively we can't just settle for three's. Move the ball and let the guards cook off the bounce.

It's one of my absolute favorite arguments in sports. Many on here do the same thing with Campbell and the Iowa game. The idea that any coach either over or under prioritizes any rivalry game is purely hilarious to me. You don't become a D1 coach, or even a D1 player, without having extreme competitiveness. You want to win every game and play well. The idea that some games you just kind of mail it in, and others you benefit from the magical powers of circling it on your schedule is so funny to me. Is this like discussed before the game? Like TJ comes in to talk to the team before they take the floor and he says "I want us operating at about a '6' tonight. Good effort, but not too much."

I like this ISU team to have a chance if they get down early. Better than the last two years.

I see this Iowa November/December narrative quite a bit but I don't get it. Iowa's peak is typically mid January to late February in time to get excited for the postseason before rug gets pulled out. Iowa was 8-7 after January 1st last year
