Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

How do you guys rank the CyHawk competitions? Here are my rankings.

1) Football
2) Men's Bball
3) Wrestling
4) Women's Bball
5) Everything else is kind of a tie.
Probably Women's basketball and volleyball over Wrestling. I really dgaf about wrestling.

Football's the most impactful just because it's 1/12 games.

About the only one I can somewhat enjoy watching too.

Checked the score of Iowa/Purdue last night at one point and saw it was 74-44. I put my phone away and chuckled to myself, thinking I bet Iowa goes on a frenzy late to cut it in half. Checked the score this morning and sure enough, Fran's boy played to the final whistle.

I bet they'll have a lot left in the tank come Thursday night. Seems like they basically threw a conference game in anticipation of Cy-Hawk to me.

Purdue has their way with Iowa almost every time especially at Mackey. It could of been a 40-50 point win if they wanted. There may not be a team in Big Ten that's less equipped to stop Purdue than Iowa. You either have to be physical with Edey or suffocate their guards. Iowa can't do either.

I think If Iowa plays really well they can win unlike the purdue game. Need to hit 40-45% from three along with good efficient game from Krikke. Perkins and Bowen will need to play much better defensively on Lipsey and Gilbert and then can't get killed on the boards. I don't know who we matchup with Tre King. I hope Robert Jones plays alot but he'll probably kill us on the glass. I'd set the line at Iowa State -7.5 and that's about what I think it'll be 82-74

Agree with you on the watchable, although that too has been iffy the past couple seasons.

The men's basketball game has been a brutal watch since the Prohm era essentially. I enjoyed the 2021 edition, but other than that one, it has been almost as brutal as the football series since 2016 for ISU fans.

I just don't know about any of this. ISU will be favored, but only because of Hilton IMO. I'm honestly not sure who the better team is. ISU's newcomers, minus Momcilivic, have underwhelmed so far. ISU fans love to goad Fran for his lack of perceived portal and recruiting success, but Krikke has been better than any of the 3 guys ISU brought in from the portal so far. Freeman has a different game than Momcilivic, but he has been similarly productive. Idk. Huge toss up this year IMO. I just hope Tamin can cross over one of your guards and make him fall on his face again like he did to Uhlis last year.

End of the day, Iowa still just has more guys that can put the ball in the hoop than Iowa State does. It didn't matter 2 years ago, I suppose, but the difference is ISU had Brockington then and doesn't now. We have lacked that type of bucket getter since he left.

I'm sorry to hear how you feel. I have enjoyed watching ISU men's basketball for the better part of 5 decades. Season ticket holder for 35 years. There have been lots of ups and down no matter who is coaching. I still get excited to watch them now.

This is Iowa's worst team in some time. They're maybe maybe an NIT team. I think Iowa State will have little problem scoring and even though Iowa State doesn't appear as good defensively as last couple They're certainly better than Iowa. Iowa will need to hita high clip from 3 because I think Iowa State's better everywhere else. I really like Freeman a lot too. Hopefully he's a starter soon

It was in specific reference to the Cy-Hawk game...

I agree with Iowa being down compared to recent years and will likely be NIT bound or fringe bubble, but I don't really view Iowa State differently than that thru the first 8 games. I had a bit too high of hopes entering the season, so after the Thanksgiving tournament I have become a bit more realistic.

Fran's a weirdo but he scouts well.

He'll try to get King, R. Jones and Lipsey in early foul trouble. If one or two of them have 2 fouls at the 10 minute mark it will be a struggle for ISU.

He'll also try to get R. Jones off his mental game.

The challenge for ISU will be to stay the course if things get weird.

I expect Perkins to try and be physical with our guards. He will go at Tamin and/or Keshon and try to pick up cheap fouls against them. Could see Sandfort and Patrick do the same against Milan to try and take away our only shot making threat. Neither of them are great finishers at the rim, but true to Fran's system they get rewarded for awkwardly driving inside with their head down and getting cheap fouls called in their favor.

I don't like the way we match-up with Iowa. If Krikke and Freeman are on the floor at the same time, we almost have to have Rob and Tre on the floor too. Which limits are our efficiency on offense and makes defending us much easier.

If our guards are not hitting shots, Keshon and Tamin NEED to get to the rim/in the paint every possession.

He's weird alright. If I'm Tj I probably don't play Rob a ton. He's someone I think Krikke can guard. I say this and now he'll get 8 offensive rebounds of course

Ward being out makes Rob have to play that much more and probably have to do more than needed, and then King can go in and out and has had issues with an ankle too.

ISU might go on to have an OK season but they're just not there at the moment especially if this game comes down to free throws.

I've seen about 15-20 minutes of Iowa and they look to be about who they're going to be but I'd guess they make the tourney again.

I just hate this game this particular season. It will suck to lose it because ISU is definitely a better program with better players. Just feels like a real possiblity because of this teams lack of cohesion and high major experience at this time. Trying to prepare for seeing those dorks win at Hilton is brutal.

The only guy that has underwhelmed IMO has been Omaha, and that's because of the sky high expectations. I know the holiday tournament put a bad taste in our mouths, but I just don't think we played all that well down there, especially against VT. Against A&M, we started great and then lost all momentum, but even then, we were creating wide open shots (from guys we'd want taking them) at will that just wouldn't fall.

I'll add that Iowa has to find a way to defend us too. Lipsey, Gilbert and Pav have all shown the ability to get into the paint against anyone, and I don't see many defenders on their side that can stop them from doing that by themselves. I would guess that Iowa is going to have to focus on protecting the paint (and even then, I don't think they will do it all that well) and give us a bunch of wide open looks outside too.
