***2023-24 College Football Thread***

That has zero chance of happening so many you will stop thinking the sky is falling like when people were so adamant TCU wasn’t getting in last year over bama
No. But next year when the B1G and SEC demand 3 - 4 teams each to be auto'd in to the new CFP's...

Same thing. It's the haves vs. the have nots.

Again, it's not your fault. I am just venting on the new state of college FB.

I hope:

1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas
4. Florida St.

I fear:

1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas
4. Alabama

Any fan banging on FSU and thinking they should be out after going 13-0 and winning their conference title needs to imagine their team doing the exact same thing and seeing how they'd feel being left out.

I don't think UT beats Alabama right now. They almost lost to TCU? and Houston? Those teams are beyond terrible. Should have lost to KState. They caught Alabama early in the season and I think the committee is giving way too much weight to that win.
And Alabama had a fluke 4th and a mile to beat a mediocre Auburn team one week ago. If you are going to care about ‘bad’ wins, hard to say there was a worse win than Bama 7 days ago.

Yep, and either Georgia or Alabama will win the title, so the committee can say we got the best teams in, forgetting all about whether FSU or UT could have also won the title.
Michigan, Washington, FSU, and Bama.

I would actually vomit if sec got two teams in. Please don't do that to us again.

Oh and Brian Ferentz - you suck.

"Bama then isnt Bama now"

And Texas hasn't improved over the season? I guess Bama is the only team allowed to improve over the course of the season

Oh yeah next year that’s 100% happening, I mean if that system was in place this year it would have just happened that way organically

Let's see if "eye test" Herbie doubles down and puts Alabama and Georgia in.
Herbstreit: Michigan, FSU, Washington, theOhioState

It will then be a Michigan v OSU Final with OSU winning of course.

Directly from the CFP selection protocol:
-------

When circumstances at the margins indicate that teams are comparable, then the following criteria must be considered:
  • Championships won
  • Strength of schedule
  • Head‐to‐head competition (if it occurred)
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory)

....(based on beliefs that the regular season is unique and must be preserved; and that championships won on the field and strength of schedule are important values that must be incorporated into the selection process)

....Strength of schedule, head‐to‐head competition and championships won must be specifically applied as tie‐breakers between teams that look similar

I hate to say it, but Texas belongs and might be the best team in the country. That said I hope they get left out. **** them all day every day.

Georgia wouldn't win sh*t. They got rolled by Bama and their best win was vs. an overrated Mizzou team. I think Michigan would beat them and Washington would destroy them.

Yep. Play 9 conference games you pussies. And the SEC was not good this year either. Doesn’t mean Bama and Georgia weren’t two of the best in the country but every other conference has to play by the perception of their entire league when analyzing them
Oh the horror! No battle with Chattanooga in November?

This x1000!!!

The SEC refuses to go to 9 conference games because they don’t think they have to since they will always get 1-2 teams in the (current format) playoffs. They are the only Power 5 conference that only plays 8. If the committee had the balls to do the right thing, they would make it loud and clear that there SEC has weaker data points due to only having 8 conference games and at least 3 of the non conference games are against weak opponents.
It’s the perfect “out” for the committee.

That 8 game conference schedule should be used against SEC teams during CFP debates. Any national guy that mentions this would be my hero. Tim Brando comes to mind as having the stones to do so, Joel Klatt too.

**** Texas.

Their fans think we have a poverty conference, blamed Kansas St for recruiting issues, and tried to kill the remaining 8.

Keep them out of the playoffs.
It's the lesser of two evils. I will root for TX to make the CFP's, begrudgingly.

They have a strong case to be in the final 4 this year.

Wouldn't this make the Big 12 more money per team?

Isn’t it possible that

The NIL and portal have actually leveled the playing field?

Chaos and crying Blue Bloods.

That has to be good for the Underdog Cyclones!
