F*CK IOWA

I think this is pretty fair assessment. Though like with Iowa the crossovers would be huge and ultimately maybe decide where exactly you finish.
I could go back and find it but a while ago I laid out how you make the title game in the West and it's literally this.... don't play 2/3 top East teams in the regular season. Did you know there hasn't been a single Big 10 West champion that's played 2/3 top East teams during the regular season? Hmm.

I'm happy all of my Iowa friends are younger. They are diehards but they think Iowa is a joke.
My brother in law is in his later 30s, a bit more realistic than most Iowa fans I know, understands the level of suckitude and makes fun of them, Brian, Deacon etc. But since I am an Iowa State fan and have only seen one ISU win in the Cy-Hawk series in the last near-decade, I am not allowed to make fun of them (Iowa) in his opinion.

I think it's pretty obvious I knew it you basically quoted me saying as much

Really Iowa looks good in it? I didn't even know that
LMAO. Nobody believes you.

The biggest flaw in that rating is it only looks at expected wins or losses. It doesn't account for total offense or defense; it doesn't account for performance during a game; it purely looks at expected wins/losses. So the games Iowa barely won against much inferior opponents (which was nearly half their conference wins) doesn't factor into this rating.

Iowa is a 5-7 to 7-5 team with an inflated record due to their crap schedule. I think that is the point of everyone here, other than the hawk homers.
I agree, I actually think Iowa and Iowa State are pretty equal all things considered. Iowa State probably better at this point in the season, despite the +3 win differential in favor of Iowa. I think Iowa State NOW is as good/equal to Iowa at the START of the season, full strength. They were considerably worse back in September.

They are so tired of losing to teams they are better than.
Every year it’s the same story lol. Iowa is the “luckiest” team in history of sport. If only we played them in the Covid year, if only there wasn’t a rain delay, if only we played them in November, if only Kolar wasn’t dinged up, if only our players didn’t gamble on our own team.

Guess what, you lost when the game was played. Plain and simple. Iowa has 3 more wins against easier competition. But you still lost, again… and you have 3 fewer wins again.

Next year the records will likely be within a win or two either direction with Iowa playing a much more difficult schedule but if Iowa wins there will be some sort of excuse and mind bending as to why ISU is better. Iowa was just “lucky”.

That to some degree is what I don't like though. I don't think beating a team 56-7 is much more impressive than 34-10 but with fpi all those meaningless points matter. Now Iowa is an outlier. I'd certainly like a little more cushion or margin of defeat for me to really think they're a very good team.

In basketball the versions like fpi using margin of defeat always love iowa and then people complain about it here too. I try not to be a hypocrite and for basketball value SOR as the most insightful though it favors Iowa less.

Just look at some of the FPI rankings they're beyond absurd. The playoff would be Ohio state vs Penn state, Michigan vs Oregon. If you go through sor though it's much more similar to playoff rankings

I don't think you understand the frustration ISU fan base has with Iowa fans. We have to hear from Iowa fans how "great" their program is because they constantly win 9-10 games a season. Yet the main reason why they win that many games is because of the weak conference schedule. Year in and year out Iowa gets a favorable draw. Visiting Ohio State once since 2013, for example.

The two teams are about equal. Each team has strengths, and each team has weaknesses. All we want is for Iowa fans to admit the main reason for their "success" is because they played a weak conference schedule.

I think losing against a top 15 team 31-0 (and going about 45 minutes without a first down!) and winning 4 games against below average power 5 teams by only a couple points is quite meaningful.

You can sit here and talk about that all you want but your own head coach went into a press conference after a win and complained about a correct call being made one month ago. He's doing the exact same thing. Lol

Multiple things can be true at once folks...

Iowa beat ISU week 2
ISU has gotten immensely better since week 2
Iowa had a powder puff schedule this year
Iowa and Iowa State won't play a hypothetical week 14 game
Iowa is going to get embarrassed on national TV in about 34 hours

The Hawk trolls are realizing they're losing this argument, so they're falling back on what happened in our rivalry game 2+ months ago that might as well have been 2+ seasons ago with how much has changed for both teams since then.

I do wish Iowa State could start winning Cy-Hawk games again though. Might as well kick out that last little shaky leg they have to stand on.

The winner of the Big 10 West, normally, outside of Wisconsin, has been a paper tiger.
I do agree the "how has iowa state done against the west" is lazy because it's measuring 1 game vs the same team. At same point Iowa State needs to win some games consistently outside Big 12 for me to take some of the comments about Iowa State's record or winning 9-10 games with another schedule seriously. Matt Campbell is 15-13 outside the big 12. That's atrocious! I bet without looking Iowa's lost 3-5 games in the last 28 non conference games. I mean there's probably 5-6 FCS teams in those 15 wins. Even Drake once.

With these Iowa fans acting like they'd have made the Big12 championship game (literally only if they had WV's schedule would it be possible fyi) it made me realize I'd love an Ok State Iowa bowl game. Bowman would still be the best QB Iowa faced outside of McCarthy, and an offensive minded coach like Gundy v Ferentz would be a great scheme on scheme battle.

@iahawks
Haven't seen your thoughts on this. Curious to see how you want to spin this to make Iowa look favo

This is the laziest argument out there... No actual serious Iowa State fan will say that Iowa is a bad football team. If they do, they're way too biased. Iowa is year in and year out solid to good and has had ISU's number ever since CMC has gotten here. It's just what is is.

Under CMC, we'd be at the top of the Big 10 West every year. Would we win it every year? No, that's a ridiculous statement. CMC has placed ISU at the top of the Big 12 almost every year and it's been a better conference than the Big 10 West every year since he's been here.
The B1G West has been very poopie for 10 years. Thank God it's being disbanded.

Not saying Iowa has been this great program or anything the last decade or so, but they have undoubtedly been better than ISU during that same time. To make fun of a team that is better than your team is a little strange.
