Today is Giving Tuesday, I encourage everyone to give to the cause(s) that are near and dear to each of you.

Obviously we are encouraged to give to We Will, but I'm asking for a everyone to link there other favorite charity to help raise awareness.. I can start

Food Bank of Iowa is rated 100/100 on charity navigator (LINK). It appears they are having a match day thanks to Corteva.

Meals from the Heartland is rated 97/100 with the only deduction coming from no 990 listing on their website (LINK)

Great thread. Always people who are in need.

A lot of times your community Facebook/Reddit page will have people that need something as simple as shoes.

Also, if you're able to, please consider donating blood.

GREAT suggestion to give blood. I really should do that more often and an O+ donor.

Thank you

Here is a link for those interested

Great thread idea. There are so many good organizations doing good work for people in need, including all of those mentioned so far above (excluding The Curt Fund). I'll name one that preserves wild spaces and habitat throughout Iowa, works on cleaning and protecting our water sheds, and tries to preserve that sliver of our natural heritage (less than 1% of Iowa's prairies are still in existence prior to settlement) for future generations: Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. They do great work! https://www.inhf.org/

I will choose a cause I support that didn’t send me an email. We had 109 emails in the inbox this morning and I had cleared the junk last night around 11:45.

Can Play is an organization that gives access to sports and recreational opportunities for kids that might otherwise have a barrier. Physical or economic
This is a really cool organization that I've been able to be part of for a few years, and have watched it grow.
A few years ago, this was 2 orgs (Opportunity On Deck and Courage League Sports). They've now combined to form Can Play.

Safe paws rescue in Boone.

They rescue pups and cats scheduled for euthanization. We have fostered 3 pups for this organization. Our current foster has a bullet in his hip which has caused some nerve damage to his other little doggie parts(ie his penis does not fully retract). He has an upcoming and expensive surgery that is being paid for by Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids.

Another idea:

Talk to your local school district's lunch program. There are ways to donate and help provide school meals for a child. (Or at least there used to be a few years ago).
Good idea - no kid should be hungry at school. Some states have provided free breakfast and lunch for all students regardless of income level. I know Minnesota approved this starting this school year

I think a part of inhf is tied into a magazine I get called Iowa Outdoors?

I'll make the selfish plug of my other thread. Also make sure to look into company matching - some that don't do it during the rest of the year will match or match more on Giving Tuesday.

This strikes home having recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of Parkinson's.

I know there are a lot of very worthwhile charities and needs for donations, especially this time of year. This is one of those to consider if you have the means. There is a short-window where the next $4 million in donations before November 28th will be matched.

This Giving Tuesday, your gift will be matched!

We’re closer than ever to the answers that patients and families with Parkinson’s urgently need, and we can’t slow down now.
Join us early for Giving Tuesday, a day of global generosity on November 28. Thanks to a group of generous families, all donations on Giving Tuesday will be matched up to $4 million.

Donate early today!

I'd second the Meals from the Heartland recommendation
