I don't either.

But were talking about this year and of the teams we played who'd be a better option for us and thats Gabriel and Ewers for sure.

I could argue Howard and Shapen as well.
Sorry, calling complete ******** on Howard and Shapen.

And what we were talking about was whether or not we were sold on Becht. I asked who we would want if not Becht that we had seen this year. We got Ewers and Gabriel which might be a duh but I don't know how they would have looked behind our line.

So what we are saying is, unless we have blue chippers, we aren't going to be comfy with our QB.

If you want to go for Howard/Shapen level - we'll just have to disagree.

I can't believe we're even having this conversation. Becht had a fantastic and successful freshman season, and is absolutely the starting quarterback over Kohl, going into next year, barring something significantly unforseen. It's not a slight again Kohl to say that, either.
The reason people are talking about it, is because people see 4 stars and think that automatically makes that kid a great player. Those same people will also proclaim stars don’t matter. Rocco is the starter for the next three years barring injury or transfer and it’s not even a question.

I imagine Kohl will announce eventually. I think it’s pretty clear that Rocco is going to start here the rest of his career
Why even speculate. Not many teams are gonna pony up for what would essentially just be an older HS recruit as he hasn’t shown anything in game at this point. Unless a team has an absolutely terrible QB situation they won’t be interested. Even then they won’t pay much and would probably target a known commodity even if that other target has lower potential

I like Rocco and I think he'll be great (hopefully)

Just saying, this year with our WR and the way we could run the ball.. Gabrial/Ewers/Shapen could have done some damage.

Howard can throw the ball but what he brings to the run game is unique, too.

It's okay to like Rocco, and also think other QBs are better/more productive than him, ya know.

I don't mean this in any way to disparage Kohl because he very well could wind up being great. But he was the 19th best QB on Rivals.

In the 2022 the 19th ranked QB was Jayden Denegal who had 5 pass attempts at Michigan this year.
In the 2021 the 19th ranked QB was Garrett Nussmeier who had 33 pass attempts for LSU this year.
In the 2020 class the 19th ranked QB was Jacolby Criswell has 68 career pass attempts in 4 years and is at Arkansas now.
In the 2019 class the 19th ranked QB was Spencer Brasch who threw 4 passes for Cal Poly this year.
In the 2018 class the 19th ranked QB was Adrian Martinez who obviously had a decent career between Nebraska and K-State.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is his ranking doesn't make him some kind of shoe-in for becoming an elite QB. I don't see any way you don't stick with the proven QB in Rocco, even if it means Kohl moves on (which to be clear I hope he doesn't do!).

Ewers and Gabrial would be immediate proven upgrades. Pedigree means very little to QB play in my opinion. Manning and Kohl in my opinion are on the same level currently.

Blake Shapen is a maybe for me. Will Howard is a no.

I meant that I'd take 3 years of Rocco versus the likely 1 year remaining of Ewers.

I might take 4 years of Manning over 3 years of Rocco, but I'm not entirely sure of that.

And don't forget Becht was a 4 star on some sites. On Rivals he was a top 250 player and #12 rated QB. He isn't some scrub they have as a place holder. I also think he is probably the more accurate of the two. I don't know how people could not be impressed with Becht's first year. Almost 2700 yards 20 td to only 8 Int. 23 total TDs. Kept improving as the year went on.

in my opinion, the comparisons with Brock are uncanny. He has a very similar playing style - although with less running (by design I think)

JJ is going to be much more prepared with an off season under his belt. Does he overtake Rocco? Highly doubtful, but he'd be a much more desirable transfer with some solid 2024 film which I think he'd get.

FYI, the staff loves Moberly at QB. Couple pages back someone suggested a position change and he's not even here. Just because you can type stupidity doesn't. mean you should.

That was me. I suggested it, and wasnt aware it would hurt your feelings so much. Considering you will have Kohl and Becht most likely ahead of him on the depth chart, I'm sure the staff will want him on the field somehow. Remember, they also loved Porter at WR at one point too

Its Becht job at the start of the next season and it should be, and it's up to Kohl to go out and take the job away from him, that is what every coach wants, the competition for the position, which will in turn make both of the better. If Kohl cannot take the job, then he will leave and find someplace else to start.

They also recruited Sama as a DB, so nothing matters until they get on campus

And he wasn't sacked much.

Moberly will probably stay at QB. Throw hypos here: Becht holds the job next year over JJ (who stays next year), Becht will have two years in, JJ one and Moberly used his RS. In that situation, JJ probably transfers, That would give us Becht and Moberly the following year (Hughes would be done IIRC) pending we don't grab a JUCO which Matt rarely does for more than a backup. Moberly would have 2 years after Becht graduates if he wins the job. It would be the solid situation for ISU.

I felt like I heard that somewhere, but couldnt remember it for sure. I also heard others recruited him as a DB, and that he came here because we wanted him as an RB. The internet is a wild place man
