Liberty Bowl 2023?

I say this as a joke, mostly, but ISU should have pushed to add Memphis to the Big 12, so we can stop playing them in the Liberty Bowl. Ridiculous that that is a possible opponent again. Also, how ****** would it be to be a Memphis player? I mean a bowl game should be a mini vacation too, not 100% football, but imagine getting to stay home for your bowl game, that would suck.

I get that, especially if it happens multiple times over a decade. But also, if you could guarantee decent weather, how cool would a bowl game in Jack Trice be?

I'd take Auburn, Florida or Kentucky, since it's SEC + ISU has not played any of them. Only meeting vs. South Carolina was in 1967.

ISU has played Memphis only once, too, but since it was so recent, it seems more redundant.

Actually, ISU hasn't played more than once vs. majority of non-B12-defector SEC teams.

Have we played the SEC since Bama in Shreveport?

Memphis being opponent is probably the only way I would NOT go to the game.

WTF is the point of a bowl game that's really an away game? Dumb af. Plus it's already happened to ISU twice!

Twice, yes, but if you look at location, you could pretty much also count the Pinstripe Bowl vs. Rutgers as a home game for them, since it's just over an hour from there to Yankee stadium. It's basically in the outermost suburbs of NYC. It would be like ISU playing a bowl game in Pella.

So "pretty much" it's happened 3 times. :(:campbell:

2017 Bar Memory: Silky O' Sullivans-
Friday Afternoon(night before game) at Silky's
The 3 Bartenders in the outside Bar are running around like crazy.
A clueless "manager" walks out and nicely asks if he can get anything for them (I think he assume he could grab a 6pack of rolling rock to get them through the night).
The Bartender quickly snipes back, "Listen, we are out of Coor Light, We are out of Busch Lite, We are out of Bud Light, We are out of Miller Lite, and these 3 kegs are blown, AND we NEED another Bartender.....wowsers...

Here is the latest report from the Liberty Bowl's weekly email:

My Silky mem:
Pandy Reterson tripped on the stair from the oyster bar into main bar at Silky O Sullivan’s at about 11 last night. I kind of reached out to make sure he didn’t take a header but he caught himself for the most part.
Me “God damn it Randy, don’t blow out anoth.....”
Randy “I know, I know.”

IF it is against Memphis, Iowa State Team Hotel would most likely be changed to the Peabody as it is the SEC Team Hotel. At least there is a precedence for that since it happened previously with Memphis playing in the Liberty Bowl.

i think the thing that helps WVU with the Liberty, besides proximity, is WVU has a fun offense to watch. WVU also hasn't been to the Liberty in a bit, and bowls dont like having the same team too often. Of course both teams need to win this weekend to get a Liberty Bowl bid.

If I had to guess though, WVU will be in Orlando at the Pop Tarts Bowl. Pop Tarts picks before the Liberty, so I think WVU wont be available for Liberty.
