One thing in our favor is that KState is coming off an emotional game against their instate rival.

This seems like Campbell’s kind of game, but he’s not the one taking the snaps. Difference from TCU last year is we were dead before the first whistle went off. Maybe our youth doesn’t know any better and they come out swinging this year?

TCU was also teeing off playing for the CFP spot.

It was a non-starter and hardly a reflection of the season on the whole (although perhaps a reflection of the team dynamics in regards to leadership etc.).

Comparing this to TCU last year is totally asinine.

We were guaranteed a losing season. We were not a very good team. They were playing for a national championship (which they made it to, by the way).

We are a much better team than we were a year ago. This KSU team is absolutely not what last year's TCU squad was. They are likely to only be playing for bowl positioning, just like us. At that point, it's a rivalry game with nothing more than bowl positioning and bragging rights. Like most Farmageddons in the Campbell era have been.
It was a reach I suppose for me to throw out that comparison. I did caveat it with that Iowa State is a better team this year though.

Point being Iowa State does not have much of a dog in the fight. Much like they didn't last year vs TCU. Kansas State has a few things. Yes, they will know their Big 12 fate by the 7pm kick off like you said. But it is also senior night for them and they have a really good team. It is not a fundamentally different team than the one that beat TCU in the Big 12 championship game last year. Iowa State is on the road, a bit battered, and knows they exceeded expectations already this season. I anticipate K-State comes out with their hair on fire regardless of the stakes. My only hope is Iowa State doesn't have their guard lowered, because K-State as I said in my post above, is capable of dealing an absolute piss pounding.

So ISU won't care because the stakes are low and KSU will care regardless?

That's not how this works. It's also not a fundamentally different KSU team than the one that struggled to beat a 4-8 Iowa State team last year.

I dunno. Call it a gut feeling then I guess. Just don't feel like Iowa State will be very up for this one. At least not to the level K-State will be. I can see it being close for a half until K-State wears us down and wins something like 37-21

I mean, I think KSU is the better team too. I just don't buy the idea that they're more motivated or have some other mystical advantage. They have a better offensive line and running game. I think passing attack, defense, and special teams are relatively similar.

I'd just go with continued improvement.

All things considered I thought the Texas game was our best of the season. Rocco generally played great despite not (consistently) having time. The oline was decent in pass protection despite being physically overmatched. Our receivers played well, the front 6 likely had its best game of the season (though I think they tired as the game went on), and the secondary played pretty well.

The big black eyes were the tackling, special teams, and poor clock management in the 4th. IMO the latter was the most inexcusable. If our staff can't show some urgency when down 10, getting plays in and snapped closer to 15-20 seconds on the play clock instead of 5, we are going to have a hard time coming back if trailing late. Even if we had scored I don't know if we would have had enough time to score again.

Should this game be close I just pray our staff gets plays in. It's been an issue all year long and there is simply no excuse for it.

I’m probably in the minority but this is a mid rivalry imo. Feels forced and people just like adding -ageddon after everything.

I think it would be well embraced if the universities leaned into it a bit and made a trophy for it.

No one thinks it's OSU/Michigan, but geez let us have some fun with it.

I wonder if part of it is perception in the Kleiman era. KState has gotten strong as season goes on in recent seasons. They generally play clean. Manhattan has been hell on earth for us. As a whole, KSU is somewhat of an aspirational program for ISU… of course we’d trade places with them over the past 30 years.

We were a few plays from beating them last year. On paper we aren’t that far apart.

I disagree, and I'm someone who usually agrees that some rivalries feel forced. This one has developed quite a bit in the last 5-6 years. For whatever reason, KSU fans really dislike Campbell and any attention that ISU gets. Similar to Iowa fans in that regard.

I'm happy to see that the Farmageddon moniker has taken off nationally. The media likes this rivalry, and that's helped it gain some attention. For awhile, Nebraska/Iowa was trying to use it, but it makes way more sense with ISU/KSU.

It has a chance to really level up in the new Big 12, even if we don't play every year. Hopefully we're competing for Big 12 titles.

Heacock needs to be willing to be more aggressive like he was last week. IMO that's the gameplan Heacock needed against Kansas but for whatever reason couldn't do.

I also think KSU is the better team but they are more beatable than Texas. The disparities aren't as large and I was surprised KU was able to shut down KSUs running game as much as they were. If we play similar to last week but clean up the tackling, which was beyond sloppy at times, I like our chances. I think we will have a better ground game which should help the play action and take pressure off Rocco. Scheelhaase called some iffy plays but overall called his best game of the year. Some of those play calls were absolutely perfect and we need that again this week.

I have a feeling it will be close and that clock/game management may be a factor. I just hope we don't lose from running the play clock down to 5 every play and/or wasting TOs. Special teams also needs to be much better. It looked more like last year's units than this years last week.

A few caveats… I don’t live in Iowa or the KC area, so I’m not near any KState people on a daily basis

This just feels like another game now. We’ve had some nasty games against them, but I don’t feel like buzz about it like other big games this weekend: The Game, Iron Bowl, FSU-UF, etc.

Maybe the stakes aren’t as high? We are already going bowling. We aren’t going to Dallas. Just feels different.
Nobody thinks it's on the level of those games. It's a developing rivalry that's rising in animosity mostly in the online spheres.

CW mentioned it in the podcast, and I agree that we’re pretty beat up after that Texas game. No idea how KSU is after the Kansas game.

If ISU isn't 'up' for this game then bring back the pitchforks crowd and they'd be justified.

There's plenty reason to want this game badly.

With all things considered. By my calculations. All things being equal. With the total possibility of outcomes being either "win" or "lose". I believe the chances of "win" to be somewhere in the mid level of calculations. With a common level of certainty. I would count that chance to be in the realm of possibilities. And thereby equal to fifty percent.
That's why they play the game! We will show up, and play.

Who knows the outcome? I'll take the Cyclones by a million.

I don’t have a clue or care who John Kurtz is.

The only thing I care about is beating K-State Saturday. Period. End of sentence. No conditions or qualifiers.
