I’m probably in the minority but this is a mid rivalry imo. Feels forced and people just like adding -ageddon after everything.

I'm not sure. It certainly isn't on the level of Cy-Hawk or whatever the Kansas/K-State equivalent of Cy-Hawk is called, but I do consider KSU probably our next closest thing to a rival. In football anyway. They are our most equal peer just looking through the annals and almanacs. A lot of other similarities that are non-sports affiliated too. I also hold more personal vitriol for them than most of our other conference foes, simply based on how Snyder was our Daddy for so long and the games where it looked like we were finally going to get the monkey off our backs but fell just short. Picked up penalty game, Paul Rhoads clock management crisis game, and the game last year are just a few that come to mind. Aside from Texas and OU, they are the only other conference opponent I hope loses every week. Is that enough qualifiers?

A few caveats… I don’t live in Iowa or the KC area, so I’m not near any KState people on a daily basis

This just feels like another game now. We’ve had some nasty games against them, but I don’t feel like buzz about it like other big games this weekend: The Game, Iron Bowl, FSU-UF, etc.

Maybe the stakes aren’t as high? We are already going bowling. We aren’t going to Dallas. Just feels different.
I feel this. I think it is just a bad spot for Iowa State and could see it even getting ugly.

Iowa State = successful relative to expectations. Banged up a bit. Bowl bid secured. Not a realistic shot at Big 12 championship game. On the road.

Kansas State = on par with expectations. More to play for still. Very realistic shot at Big 12 championship game. At home. Senior Night.

This feels a little bit like the season ender against TCU a year ago, granted Iowa State is a better team this year. Still, we have seen K-State absolutely piss pound a few teams this year. An unmotivated Iowa State team playing several backups in a hostile environment with emotion attached to it (senior night) kind of feels like a bad recipe to me.

This will be known at kick off. It's pretty likely that KSU will have been eliminated before the game starts.

One thing in our favor is that KState is coming off an emotional game against their instate rival.

This seems like Campbell’s kind of game, but he’s not the one taking the snaps. Difference from TCU last year is we were dead before the first whistle went off. Maybe our youth doesn’t know any better and they come out swinging this year?

It’s one of our best conference games for sure, just don’t know if it’s a rivalry worthy of protecting or a rivalry game that really drives anything near what an in-state rivalry brings to the table.

Using your post to make my point, but this is directed at a larger group than just you.

People need to stop discrediting fans enjoying Farmageddon by saying it doesn't have the juice that some of the best rivalries in all of football have.

We know it isn't on the level of tOSU-UM, but it's the closest thing we have to a conference rivalry and it's well enough known that Fox has made special animated in-game graphics for the matchup in the past.

I feel like we have a 10% chance of winning. Prove me wrong please.
ESPN FPI has ISU with a 15% chance to win.
Moneyline at +300 implies about 25% chance to win.
Sagarin has ISU at 21% chance to win.

So there you go.

Gonna need some favorable bounces - at their place...

Comparing this to TCU last year is totally asinine.

We were guaranteed a losing season. We were not a very good team. They were playing for a national championship (which they made it to, by the way).

We are a much better team than we were a year ago. This KSU team is absolutely not what last year's TCU squad was. They are likely to only be playing for bowl positioning, just like us. At that point, it's a rivalry game with nothing more than bowl positioning and bragging rights. Like most Farmageddons in the Campbell era have been.

I voted "other" because at this point I am focused on basketball and wrestling. Whether we go to Independence Bowl or Armed Forces Bowl is not a needle mover - I am happy we are going to one and the team deserves to go to a bowl.

As for the game I am torn - Of course I want ISU to win, but my dislike for Oklahoma is greater than my dislike for Kansas State. If somehow, BYU beats Okie State then the only way to keep Oklahoma out of the Big 12 championship is for KState to beat us.

I find myself in a similar position to where I am sometimes when basketball season is ending and we are on the bubble. Our computer rankings will look better if Iowa or Kansas win particularly when we beat them during the year, however I just can't get myself to root for hawk. My brain says "yes" my heart says "Go to ****!".

Thus, I likely will be watching the game rooting for TJ Tampq to have a pick six, Easton Dean to have a 30-yard TD reception and Gerry Vaughn to have a strip sack as they likely end their ISU careers, and rationalizing that KState and Iowa State had a chance to stop the Texas/OU championship game - but didn't.

And a rivalry also doesn’t need to be based on hate. You can have a respectful rivalry that is just fun

I understand. And I want to share that I do very much care about Farmageddon. I’ve felt all the highs and lows over the years before, during, and after the games. It’s important to us and important to me. I wish we did the Cardinal-Purple tractor trophy that many have suggested in past.

I guess I’m just trying to highlight that being geographically distant from the area and the trajectory of the season has cooled my enthusiasm this year. I fully expect lots of high stakes Farmageddons in the new big XII with some rematches in the title to game to boot.

I’ve noticed no one has answered this. Who the **** is John Kurtz? OP, we need answers.
Kurtz is a KSU podcaster guy. He poses as a journalist / inside info guy, but his sources are 100% other media folks. He made some noise during realignment when people were looking all over for info. But all he ever had was stuff from 365, official releases, and other media guys like Canzano or McMurphy. He just commented on it, but the headlines he attached made it seem like had a scoop so people would listen. I listened to him a few times and figured out he never had any new news - just rehash.

If I had a podcast reporting on what I have read in threads on CF, it would be the same thing. He's a waste of time. Not a bad guy, just... pointless.
