With the news that Ward is out until at least the start of the conference schedule I wonder if they would consider burning the red shirt of JT Rock if this injury keeps him out longer then the start of conference play?

I know they don't want to but they are down to one legitimate center.

My guess is they won't do that and relay more on the power forwards.

Great question, but I think there's about a zero percent chance of that happening. I just don't think JT is ready.

Keep in mind, this would normally be JT's senior year in high school. As a big man, it typically takes a little longer for the big guys to develop.

If Ward is really only out for the rest of the non-con, I don't think it makes sense since the schedule is so weak. We saw last night that we'll be just fine without him in the short term if Omaha is going to play like that.

He's an important piece but not mission critical, in my opinion.

0% chance they burn Rock's RS. Not downplaying missing Ward but our schedule is so weak we could win most games playing 4 guards 90% of the game. Not to mention Omaha and Watson are more than capable of taking most of Wards minutes for the time being.

Jones, King, Omaha, Watson and Fish can all play in the post. They'll be fine. Rock needs to keep his redshirt.

Not to mention if Rock was ready to be a rotation guy he wouldn't be redshirting.

Non-con isn't an issue. Rob, Tre and OB can man the 5. There will be some bumps as Ward works back in Big 12 play, but so be it.

This roster is very versatile. When Rob isn't in, playing Tre, OB and MM gives great overall length and defensive flexibility. Between Rob's improvement offensively and the ability to put better offensive skill around him vs. last year, I'm not too worried.

I think the goal should be to have Ward 100% and back fully in the flow and at full minutes after a few games into league play.

They're not burning Rock's redshirt. This is an extra year for him to develop.

6-8 weeks is the most likely timetable for Hason. Sounds like he had a minor internal fixation surgery done. They insert a screw(s) to help stabilize his foot while it heals.

Best case, he's back for the first conference game on Jan 6th. That's 7 weeks post injury so that could be feasible as long as it heals properly. I would guess early to mid January return.

Agreed 100%

I fully expect that when we get to "crunch time" minutes against a good team that Otz will be inclined to play the 3 lead guards (Lipsey-Gilbert-CJones) most of the time, with some combination of bigs to go with them (Milan and Tre, probably)

Yeah, in previous games it seemed like it was 2 guards and 3 forwards most of the time. I think we'll see a little more 3 guard rotations for a while.

I feel for Hasan, but I think this will be the best for Omaha's long term development. TJ can't afford to pull after a bonehead move or two. He looked like a different person yesterday. I am excited to see him against some P6 Talent.

Hopefully Ward is able to slide back into the rotation when he's healthy, but this likely speeds up Omaha's development prior to conference season
