Caitlin Clark dating Conner Macaffery

This Iowa women's team is a pretty big paper tiger. It is Clark and not much else. Martin and Marshall are decent role players, but it is astounding to me that they were unable to add during portal season. Why didn't any potential transfers look at that situation and go "Gee, I could play with the best player in the sport, possibly ever, and win a natty." ? There has to be some sort of internal toxicity that never gets dredged up because the media doesn't want to make it a story, but is evident to outsiders who get close to the program. I think all of the Iowa athletic programs have this to an extent. They all come off as exclusive clubs for privileged individuals who fit a certain mold.

I am convinced the WNBA will make every effort to make the jump a huge financial win for CC.

There is a lot more money to be made off sponsorship deals and my bet is the WNBA will promote her as a face of the league far more than Iowa, Big10 or NCAA.

Plus, gotta believe she will have a been there, done this feel after this season. And look forward to a new challenge.

I would also be curious if her opportunity to play in next summers Olympics is contingent on her being a pro.

No, it doesn't come up. It is 100% speculation. But why not add to your team from the portal when you need to replace 2-starters, including your 2nd leading scorer and only serious post presence. I found that mind-blowing and a lot of Iowa fans I've asked about this agree that they wish Bluder would've done more in the offseason.

Yes Czinano was annoyingly good and tough as nails. I'm not sure how they could not see that her leaving was leaving a huge hole in their program from all of shots in the paint, screening, rebounding and post defense areas.

Maybe she tried? I suppose some players might sign up to play there if they thought they could win a natty with Clark, but aren’t most good players going to want to have a chance to shoot once in a while?

I understand that take, and while last night was a debacle with her taking 52% or whatever it ended up being of the teams fgs, she does average 8 assists over her career. She'll find shooters if they're open.

Even if she does pass it, Iowa is all about her. The tweet that K-State beat CC . . . oh and #2 Iowa. The crazy money she gets paid, enough for a lifetime. I just think a decent player who might want to play after college might seek out a team where they are more than a role player.

Yeah, I can agree with that and see that perspective. I still think there is a case to be made though, that if there was someone in the portal with maybe one season of eligibility left and just wanted to win, there would not have been a much more attractive landing spot than Iowa this past offseason. They are probably 1 and 1/2 players away from being a legitimate contender for a Final 4 repeat. I don't think they get back there with the way this current roster is constructed.

Can you imagine if CC hit the portal and went to LSU to win a title? That would have been very interesting to sit back and watch the fallout.
