Phillip Bates is back?!?!

Well he did sign his NLI on signing day: Ohio Football Inks 22 on National Signing Day :: Press conference to be streamed live on OhioBobcats.com

So I doubt he is back. If he is there are going to be some complexities to it.

Take it with a grain of salt.

Don't shoot the messenger on this. I just got a call from someone with the information I reported. If it turns out to be wrong, I am sorry.

I think he's talking about one of these posts, neither of which say that the information is false.

He shouldn't have had to sign a LOI in February, because he should already have been enrolled. One eliminates the necessity for the other.

And if he wasn't yet enrolled (for some mysterious reason), getting released from a LOI isn't all the difficult.

I'll take your word for it.

Curious why Ohio listed him as having signed an NLI then.

Adam Haluska is transfering back also. We might as well strike up a conversation about that as well. I think President Ronald Reagan is going to run for office again. Let's just get more and more rediculous.

I searched and found him in the Ohio U directory.....if he is Philip K Bates that is.

Interestingly, his email is forwarded to is ISU email address.

And I am not shooting the messenger either. I just dug up the info to make sure he actually completed his transfer.

I actually trust something Clone85' posts more than a lot on here. I would not be surprised to see Bates actually back on campus.

The salt comment is about him being back on the team. Just don't want people getting their hopes up then melting down afterwards when it turns out he was just visiting for the weekend.

I would take him back on 2 conditions:

1) The current players support it.

2) He understand that his time at QB is over.

That being said, I drool at the thought of him and Sims as our safeties. Talk about a huge talent upgrade.

Exactly. As a fan, I would welcome him back with open arms if these two conditions were met.

If true, he probably doesn't lose anything even if he had been enrolled at Ohio for a short time. He still has a RS available and would not have been able to play at Ohio until he sits out a year. It seems that he cold sit out a year at ISU if needed and still have his last 2 years available.

Maybe someone can shed further light on this, but I think that you do. The NLI is the agreement between the school and player, so I believe Bates would have to sign one to take a scholarship from Ohio.

I could be wrong, but that's how I always thought it was done.

4 year transfers don't sign an NLI, and that article says nothing about him signing an NLI, just announces him as part of the class, says they announced 20 some freshman, couple jucos and one 4 year guy. Bo Williams was announced as part of our recruiting class last year as well, but he didn't sign and NLI, once he attended his first class at ISU he was a Clone.

I agree, and wasn't calling you out. I think people were taking your post to mean that it was impossible for him to come back after signing a LOI w/ Ohio. As you said, it's probably much more difficult, but not out of the question completely.

Since this is a rumor that would benefit ISU, I won't believe it unless I see Bates standing on the sideline wearing an ISU uniform.

Now, if it was a rumor that would somehow cause damage to ISU.............. well, I think we know how those usually turn out.

This is so far off base it's laughable. It wasn't even Bates that was on campus.

It was Tim Tebow, and yes, he's transferring to ISU.

I was told "God" and I figured Phillip Bates! Should have known he meant Tebow:biglaugh:

I'm caught up in this like women and soap operas. Could it really be true? What do you think the public's perception of this if is indeed true? Are people automatically regretful for the things they said about PB or do they still hold a grudge?

Man this is quite interesting.
