Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Creighton’s defense is not as good as last year and they will miss Nembhard a lot. Iowa looked better than I thought they would but I think a lot of that is more Creighton than Iowa.
We likely did not see Creighton at their ceiling last night. They had an awful start to the season a year ago, and then when we saw them firing on all cylinders toward the end of the year, they were able to make a Sweet 16 run. I suspect that happens again this season.

Iowa on the other hand probably played at or at least near a ceiling last night. An 8-point loss on the road against a top 10 team is nothing to hang your head about.

That's what I took away from watching about 10min of first half play; Creighton's pg play is going to limit them this year.

For Iowa, Bowen and Perkins looked decent on D/on ball pressure from what I saw. That may have changed after the first 10 minutes.

Perkins is probably their best defender, but I think he'd be like 4th or 5th best on ISU. Reaches too much and uses his body, results in fouls called on him and he is one of their best whiners.

God the Big 10 is so ass in basketball. What a bad night for the league.

Iowa, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Illinois all lose. Northwestern barely squeaks by 0-3 Western Michigan

The Big Ten is off to a miserable start. It should be more like 6 to 7 bid league this year.

Purdue and Michigan look good so far.

Is Bobo and Mini Fran being gone addition by subtraction?

I didn't catch their second half but noticed not as much fake tough guy stuff last night.

Good point that had Perkins too. I like this class harding had rough night but I think all 4 will be solid in 1-2 years and dembele and freeman have high ceilings. Didn't expect Dembele to be as polished as he is
They all have potential for sure, but I also know not many recruiting classes have all members make it all four years either for a lot of different reasons.

Nice observation! I think Payton Sandfort has a little fake tough guy in him, but definitely did not see a lot of that last night in the 10 min. or so that I watched. I have long felt that losing a couple of those big minutes eaters and replacing them with better talent would result in a net positive for Iowa. Will be monitoring this.

Not sure about that. Alexander looked really good with the ball in his hands albeit against Iowa's defense.

This is true, and yet I don't have a statistic to back this up but would wager a guess that Fran's retention level is better than what it is across the sport.

I thought for how young the Hawks are, they played a really good game last night. I don't think Creighton will finish the season in the top 10, but the Hawks certainly showed up last night.

Side note, Iowa has a big guy from Moline that has one of the absolute worst bowlcuts I've ever seen. Like 1997 skater cut bad.

Agree that Alexander can handle the ball, but if he becomes the primary ball handler, they're limiting the best part of his game.

Not always for good reasons though. He is commendable in a way that he doesn't seem to cut players from the roster and honors the scholarship, but that also isn't a winning formula in today's game. So far this freshman class all seem to be able to contribute to the team, which is something you couldn't say a lot about past classes with guys like Mulvey eating up a scholarship.

Alexander should be a first round pick this year. He's really good and young for a Junior.

I do think Ashworth will hold them back some. Huge downgrade from Nembhard.

The night wouldn't of been complete with Eickholt completely making something up. FYI - They were booing because the officials didn't choose to stop play until right before Iowa was about to turn it over.

I agree with you and think the tweet is dumb, but I bet ISU fans would be saying that about Iowa fans if that happened to a Creighton Player at Carver.

I'm super confused about the whole series of events on this play. It didn't look like his head hit the court, it looked like his shoulder/back. But he laid there like he was out cold...but then returned shortly after? Did Iowa sub in a concussed player? If he didn't hit his head...why was he just laying there?

Boy... Iowa is sure tough to watch. Their coach is a class A d-bag that whines and yells constantly.... and his players all follow suit. Just embarrassing. Several times last night I thought Payton Sandfort, Perkins, Patrick McCaffrey, or Daddy McCaffrey were going to literally start crying they were whining so bad and throwing fits.

The name "Farabello" was a blast from the past. Think TCU had a Farabello at one point in time, might be the same guy. Silky smooth guard for them.
