I hadn't heard anything about this but it looks incredible! Obviously very strong The Last Samurai vibes, but apparently it's based on a well known novel of the same name.

That's funny, the article I read didn't even mention the show which seems like a pretty major oversight. I was born in 79 so I dont remember the first one. Production value looks a touch better with the new one.

I was born in 72 and I kind of remember it happening, but if we watched it I don't remember it. It was a big deal at the time and pretty well done/received iirc.

Let's remake something but not tell anyone it's a remake lol.

Truth. That mini-series on NBC starred Richard Chamberlain in 1980 and had record setting viewership for the time. James Clavell's 1975 novel Shogun was a hugely popular read back than to.

Seems like good remake candidate but to not mention the previous one is weird. Seems it would actually help the PR.

I don't remember this show specifically but I do remember 80s tv and it does look pretty good for that time. Looks laughable by today's standards.
